I am curious how the differant Scale Materials are when wet or if your hands get sweaty. How do you all feel about Micarta vs. G10?

I would guess G10 might be a bit slicker.... but I have heard some guys think the G10 is better wet.... and in cold temps it might fare better as well.

Comments/experiences?

Oh and of course PICTURES never hurt!

g10 feels better to me than canvas when wet. i still haven't felt any paper micarta period, but i really like linen dry and it isn't very slippery when wet, at least not like canvas

I have no pics, but my experience has been that there has been no issue with slipperiness when either handle material gets wet. If for some reason there was an issue before the handle got wet (eg. the handle is too small for your hand size), wrapping it in some type of sports grip tape should help or eliminate the problem altogether.

Good info! I'd really like to find a Satin finish HOGFSH or HHFSH etc.... and I like the looks of G10... but I wondered how it would feel wet. Now I think I will find out if I can score one in the next Ganza or find one on the EE.

It's a tough choice since almost every FSH is so good looking!

Thanks!

I made mention to an ole boy a while back what I thought about G-10 and this is what I said.

" I love G-10. I have found that the G-10 gets almost
sticky in my hands when I sweat. When it rains and I'm out I get
more traction/grip with the G-10. Micarta seems to get slippery to
me. Also and this is the biggy, when the temp hoovers around 25-35"F
thaw/freeze, thaw/freeze I find with G-10 it is impervious to
weather, rain, freeze, snow. Micarta will absorb water, G-10 want.
To tell the truth, I'm wearing gloves at that temp anyway and a good
soft leather or even a rubber type glove say neoprene works like a
champ at that range. I've used them at -10'F with insulated gloves
and still have a grip. I will say this to the day I die, I will take
G-10 over Micarta anytime. Just wish Jerry made more Large knives in Satin, with G-10...

Hmmmmm that looks like an email I got an hour or two ago........ Trey Bizarre

G10 feels a lot more slippery to me than micarta....wet or dry. I've tried more than once but I just can't deal with G10 at all.

I've got one in canvas micarta and one in G10. Both are nice but I like the G10 better.
