Hi all

I apologize if this has been discussed before- but since I dont know the correct terminology was unable to search for it. I have recently purchased a Queen Cutlery Co Copperhead #41.

(again I apologize if this isnt the correct terminology but..) on bolster that forms the pivot point of the blade, there is a small circular indent in the nickel silver bolster which is both visible to the naked eye and easily noticeable to the touch. Is this a normal part of the construction process?

I ask, because, I was not particularly impressed with the fit and finish of this knife since the brass pins seemed to have been 'smashed' into the bone (i.e. the larger pins look like pancakes). So, I was wondering if it is something to contact Queen about or whether this was normal for such production knives.

Thanks for your time.

Paul, I'd definitely contact them about it. If that pivot pin had been peened correctly, the polishing process would have pretty much eliminated any sign of it. If perhaps they had found during inspection that the blade need a bit of loosening, the pin would possibly have been forced into the bolster a bit more, in which case it should have been sent back to the grinder to smooth things out , or rejected IMO. (Am I explaining this correctly knifemakers? I'm not completely positive about this).

on an older slipjoint the pivot being that noticeable wouldnt be an issue, on a new one may bother some. as far as the pins in the scale go pictures of what your talking about and how bad might help.
At the end of the day its your hard earned dollar and if you just arent happy or your gut tells ya it aint right then send it back and get a good one, that'll keep ya from forever wondering or even worse hating the knife 'cause it aint up to snuff.
good luck

Thanks for all the advice- I think I will contact them.

I wanted to send photos, but I dont have a macro lens on my digital camera- and the photos it took didnt do much in the way of showing the detail.

Thanks again.

Good luck Dan, let us know how things turn out.
