Sliverax vs. PM2 (Advice Sought)

I have neither the money nor the need to buy every knife -- or even every folder -- from every manufacturer. Being a Shabazzian, I've seen his two reviews of the Sliverax. Additionally, I own a couple of PM2s and more than a couple of Manix 2's. (I don't understand why people like the CBBL over the back lock version, but that's another question for another day.) Here are my questions:
  1. How does the Sliverax stack up directly against the PM2? The Manix 2?
  2. For someone who has a PM2's and Manix 2's, what is there to be gotten by also purchasing a Sliverax? (Would you do it?)
  3. Same question as #2, but substitute "Sliverax without a flipper tab" for "Sliverax."

Sliverax is a longer blade than either e PM2 or the Manix, and it has no choil. It's also a flipper. The handle looks less ergonomic, but still comfortable.

This might help

Thanks. He does a limited to comparison to the lightweight Manix 2, but not to the full weight, and not at all to the PM2. He seems to concur with Shabazz that the detent is light, and I even saw a missed flip in there, because of this. Still wondering more about how this compares to the Manix and the PM2. Lifeferung says that the blade is longer in the Sliverax than in the other 2. He also points out that there's no choil. I do like me a finger choil, so between the weak detent and the lack of choil, I'm not sure that the Sliverax has any advantage--especially since the blade lengths on the PM2 and Manx 2 are just fine for me.

And yes the detent is horrible!
Based on everything I'm hearing, I think that the Caly 3.5 (which I already own) is a better choice for me than the Sliverax would be. I don't mind back locks at all, it cuts very well, the blade shapes are similar, the detent is good, the ZDP-189 steel is better, and it's very easy to have in your pocket.

I mean, the PM2 and Manix are complimentary to each other and each other alone, IMO. You won't find a knife that really compares to them very well.
So in the Sliverax I personally like the profile it's aesthetically pleasing, and the long blade is good too. But the handle ergos look wonky and I'm not a huge fan of the whole flipper-compression lock combo. Overall I'd probably pass on it myhself, unless I found a good deal on one with a flipper delete mod.

One of the questions I asked was what people thought of the knife with the flipper tab removed, but no one commented on that.

Not many people have been able to handle one without a flipper most likely. Personally I think it would be better without a tab, but my opinion on the ergos is unchanged.

I have the Sliverax and a few PM2s. I think they're both great models but I'm not real picky. The Sliverax exceeded expectations for me with or without the flipper tab. The ergos work great for me. I've done quite a bit of cutting on wood with mine and I find it very comfortable to use. I've reprofiled the edge on mine to a little less than 15 DPS and it peels wood like crazy. I like the slightly negative blade angle, slim profile in the pocket, wire clip, great action, etc. My PM2s aren't going anywhere but if I was forced to choose between them or the Sliverax I'd probably take the Sliverax.

The detent on my Sliverax could be a touch stronger but it's far from what I'd call horrible. It flips great but it would probably be even better with a little stronger detent. I've been planning on correcting that but haven't had time to get to it lately.

How does it operate on the bearings with thumb opening? Kind of dumb question perhaps but every bearing knife I've had was a flipper.
It works great...very smooth. When I said the detent was horrible I mean for a flipper. For a thumb opener it's about where you want it to be...depending on your preference (mine was a bit on the softer side but still had some snap to it). I've had 4 different PM2's all with different detents....so I'm sure the Sliverax's can vary as well.

I removed the flipper tab because the detent was way to weak on mine. At least for my taste. Middle finger flick works best imho.
I´ve got 2 PM2 and both have stronger detents than the Sliverax...
I like the ergo of the PM2 better, but the Sliverax is a nice looking knife, that's enough for me to keep it

You can shake the blade out if its closed.
I have to grind the flipper tab smaller to be able to close it without the tab touches my finger.

Positive:
Nice looks and very good feeling in hand when open.
Big blade length
Compact size and not heavy.
Bearings works good but i like washer more. Washers feel smoother.

SharpGuy, could you speak a little more to how the PM2 and Sliverax compare, and why you'd ultimately choose the Sliverax?

I really liked the Sliverax, but my concern with the specimen I had was the detent was so weak I was afraid it might accidentally open in my pocket. Flipping it open without wrist action was out of the question. I hope the new models like the Amalgam have their detents ironed out a bit.
