Got a 2 pack of these "Slovenian" mess kits in a week ago or so. Doing a mini review on it. I put that in quotations, because I've seen them advertised as Croatian, and also Serbian. Perhaps they all use the same one, not sure. All the same part of the world. Anyways, comes in a nice canvas bag:

Reverse. Has a belt loop:

Google translate translates it as (Croatian) "do not keep the heat", which I'm sure means to wait til the aluminum pan cools before reassembling:

Has a handle that holds it together:

Handle down, and bowl removed:

Canteen comes out of the cook pot:

Then the cup comes off the canteen:

Seems like a fairly well made piece of kit. Not sure that I'll use it that much, but I will certainly give it a go at some point. The 2 packs didn't come with the flatware, as most do, but were actually cheaper than one with the flatware, so, no complaints. Also, my wife had a coupon, so we pretty much just had to pay for shipping. Thanks for looking.

Ne držati na vatri, means literally do not hold on fire, which is very much logical, since that part is plastic .. but what can you do, that is army.. they must be sure that anybody who comes in contact with the product will be able to use it properly. Shame about the flatware though, it's pretty neat

Thanks for clearing that up for me. It is a shame about the flatware, but $10 for 2 mess kits is hard to complain about.

Sorry I could not help myself. I saw those at the Army store in Dallas 2 weeks ago . Just could not pull the trigger on it.

This was more of a deal where the wife had a $10 coupon that was about to expire, haha. I've eyed them down before, but didn't really see the practicality of them.

I think you will find a lot of uses for it. How does the water taste out of the canteen?

No clue. This was the first I put water in it, to weigh it. I dumped it out on the wife's plants.

If you think that's a heavy lump you should see their sleep system. It's a synthetic outer that is far from waterproof. Within that buttons a thin fleece blanket. Next to the user is the third layer, that appears to be a cotton liner of some sort. It packs into its own hood making a sort of swag / bedroll thing about the size of a 40L pack. It weighs 7lbs. From what I can gather it has a warmth rating about that of 1-2lb sleeping bag that fits in that water bottle pouch.

I wonder what the all up weight would be for a man in the field using this tech.

Jeez, that would suck.

All those countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia) were part of the former Yugoslavia. Likely these surplus kits are originated in that country. I guess that's why they all "claim" as their kit.
