any thoughts?

intended uses:
food prep
eating food
opening packages
endless deployment while sitting on the couch

probably should have:
full flow through design
no where for funk to accumulate (milled liners, eccentric locks)
easily cleaned and possibly easily disassembled
3" - 4" blade with a decent belly
design feature that keep the cutting edge out from the pivot (ex. choil)
good pocket clip to hang on sweats and shorts
a fairly rust resistant steel
70$ shipped is probably as high as i would go

any suggestions appreciated,
XM

Kershaw RAM seems to fit the bill. Nice solid little knife and addictive opening & closing mechanism.
Get one while you can, they've been disco'd.

Spyderco Manix 2 comes to mind. Although it may be just a bit higher than your $70 price point, but worth every penny.

Sounds like you just described a Kershaw Skyline

get a cold steel roach belly. it will do everything you ask, and is cheap. great knife for the price. only $12 on amazon i think. 4116 krupp.... not bad at all for $12.

As I read this, you do not want eccentric locks. If so then Knife2agunfight has made an excellent suggestion. Another Kershaw would be the JYDII. Both have linerlocks, can be dissassembled with ease, or just washed in the sink.

CRKT Drifter... <$25. I prefer the all-stainless frame-lock version.

No choil though.

your right at the price point for a new Cold Steel spear point Recon 1. Try it out, let me know. Just kidding, good luck, there are so many choices

the skyline looks perfect! my one concern is fit and finish of kershaw knives. i once picked up a kershaw clash and the local wally world when i was in a pinch and was VERY displeased. rust formed almost instantly, blade play side to side was very bad. pocket clip came unscrewed so often i had to jb weld the screws in, only to find out later that the only way to disassemble the knife was to remove the pocket clip.

can anyone put to rest my concerns so i can buy this skyline?

I've beat the hell out of a CRKT M21 every day for the past 6 years, it's still going strong. I do everything you described and then some.

You mention a lot of more delicate task for those types of task I would reccomend the Spyderco Stretch it's got a great useable thin FFG blade as well as a very nice blade profile.

For around the house carry I will either use a 6" folder or a fixed blade that has been sharpened beyond practicality for field use (really thin edge). I like having something big and heavy that also makes dedicated kitchen knives look like they don't even belong there.

That was an anomaly. It's bound to happen now and then with anything produced in high volume.
The simplest thing you could have done was contact Kershaw customer service. They stand behind their products like no other..... You could say they go the 'xtramile'.
Skyline is a VERY well regarded knife. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

For playing with around the house, why not try a balisong? Endless hours of entertainment.
