Just finished up this little sloyd knife, or handy knife/wood knife. I will use it mostly as a whittler and shop knife. I started this one a while back, and I am making an effort to finish up all my old projects sitting around my shop.

1084 blade, 1 3/8" edge, 1/8" at the spine.
Handle is myrtle wood and bronze guard. Brass pin, hand hammered an domed. Guard face if rough cast finish for some texture. The guard is soldered at the plunge, which I ran back onto the tang just a bit to make sharpening a little easier by having the gap.

The wood came from my late grandfathers woodshop, so I finished it in his quick and easy method he showedme years ago. A couple coats of BLO and waxed with a vigorous rub down of house hold wax paper. Quick, easy, easy to touch up and repair if needed.

The straight edge will be sharp, it is currently not sharpened.

(This is before I finished the handle, but it shows the guard texture the best)

Let me know what you think!

Looks like a great all-purpose utility knife....just enough handle to offer enough purchase and a blade to get down to the finer details yet large enough for bigger chores.....

Jim, that is exactly the point of a sloyd knife, and I can see why these were popular!

Feel great in hand, now I just need to do a sheath for it. Maybe a center seam.

Thanx!

Great looking knife! Really nice work on that
Look forward to hearing how it performs once you put an edge on!

Thanx! I only work in 1080/1084 and have a good solid HT schedule, it performs very well. I love the stuff! Not just for little knives either, my custom hunter and my marling spikes are done in 1084. Very predictable performance. This one should be right about 58-60 hRc.

Will update later once I put an edge on it.

Nice work. May I ask the reason for the knob-shaped end?

Thanx! Honestly, I patterened it from an old Mora I have, but with a little knife like this, the raised end sits right along side your little finger and allows for fine control without tiring your hand. It is quite confortable.

Nice looking knife... and really nicely finished. Congratz on that beautiful piece.

I´m sure, it took some hours to finish that one off :)

Thanx guys! This one didn't take long hours wise, maybe 4-5 hours not including the 3 hours between HT and tempering.

Xander, you have great talent Sir, thank you for sharing with us, this is much appreciated to see work going on like this.

Nice work, that's an interesting little knife :)

I got this little knife all sharpened up, it is crazy sharp! Whittled a hair 3 times in the same spot.

Tested it out on some dry pine I had sitting around, carved out this little bear...

The blade shape is nice and sturdy for taking big cuts when needed, but the fine tip does excellnt detail work. This is the first thing I have whitted in 15 years or more, too! So don't be too critical of that :p
