Well I received a call from Bridget at CRK and she said my Small 2001 Wood Inlaid Sebenza is being shipped out today! She said that the wood is Curly Maple... I ordered it last July, 2000 and I'm sure it will be worth waiting for...

I'll let ya know when I get it and try to post a couple pictures.

Keep 'em sharp,
KAZ

Kaz,
Oh man!
Try to hurry on those pictures, will you?
Curly Maple is one of my favorites and I'm sure that there's absolutely NO need to say what my favorite folder is.

Kaz,
It looks better than I pictured it in my mind! I have to ask, are you going to carry it? I hope so. Too many Sebenzas end up sitting alone in the safe. It's my opinion only, but it just seems like a Sebenza should be carried. I noticed that you have the insert where the pocket clip would have gone. Sheath carry, maybe?

Congratulations, it's beautiful!
Will

Hi Will,

Yes, I carry it in the sheath. Like you mentioned, it's too nice to leave in the safe... The look on peoples faces when I take it out is priceless.

I also own a 2nd Gen Colt SAA that was made in 1959. It doesn't sit in the safe for long... I shoot it every now and then. Like the Sebenza the Colt wasn't made to sit around and look "purtey".

Keep 'em sharp,
KAZ

Ah, Kaz--Your stock just went up in my book! I can just imagine the looks as jaws drop.

I have a slight bias though. I've carried my Plain Small every single day since I got it. It's only been a couple of weeks, but I simply can't imagine myself carrying a lesser knife. I've already spoken to Mike Payne about an Umfaan for travel. Some European cops go nuts at the sight of a blade. I know that a Sebenza's blade is less than three inches long, but it "looks" bigger due to the "robustness" of the knife. I need a smaller version for travel. An Umfaan will fill that bill nicely. The truth is I can't stand a knife that has a loose blade that wiggles. You open the box, open the blade for the very first time and it doesn't lock up firmly. Look for me on the moon when that happens! "Sebenza Tight" isn't just a phrase, it's an accurate descripton.

Way to go!
Will
P.S. Most of my pistols get carried too!

It IS beautiful, isn't it Mike. If I was a dealer and had four of these wood beauties on the way, I simply would HAVE to keep one for myself. My hands just would not let them all go out in the mail. Go on man, keep one for yourself! I think you deserve one of those beauties. Everybody...do you agree??

Hi Will,

There is a story about this knife. Last year for Father's day my wife wanted to get me a knife. I wanted a 2000 Small Woodie, but I could not find one (looked everywhere). So I called Bridget and talked to her, she gave me some names to call, but all were out. I called back and said just put my order in for one of the first true Millenium Woodie Sebenza's (2001 is the start of the Millenium not 2000). In the meantime, I purchased a small Classic Sebbie (the year is marked MM I love it!) to hold me over. So this knife is my Father's Day/New Millenium knife.

Guess what the Woodie replaced? Yep the small 2000 classic Sebenza. The classic small Sebbie is what I carry overseas. I haven't had any problems yet after numerous trips (China, Canada, Holland, Germany and numerous US), but I put it into my backpack or computer case when I go thru secruity. I am NOT going to risk the Woodie through security... After talking to some secruity folks they assured me that as long as the blade is under 3" (the law is 4") you shouldn't have any problems.

The Umfaan would be great also...

Mike, keep one for yourself... You deserve it...

Keep 'em sharp,
KAZ

Kaz,
So, you've been to Europe with your Small Classic 2000? That's nice to hear! Even though it has a blade of under 3 inches in length, I was still a little concerned about confiscation. (We mostly go to France and Switzerland.) My father in law told me about a sign he saw in a US airport in the international section, before a European trip. It was a huge hand holding a very small SAK. The sign read, "If you have a knife THIS big, put it in your checked baggage". (This was right after some terrorist event.) However, I called CR Knives yesterday with a question about blades.
Bridget said someone would call me back with the answer. 15 minutes later, the phone rang. A voice said, "This is Chris Reeve". I stammered out my question, and he answered it. Then I told him of my concerns regarding taking my Small Sebenza to Europe. He seemed to get a little angry..."If somone trys to take your Small Sebenza, DEMAND a receipt for it's ILLEGAL"! He was HOT! He also told me that he "travels in an out of Europe all the time with a Small Classic 2000 Sebenza". The man says that Sebenzas are legal, he's sure of it!
It was a treat to talk to Chris himself. It always surprises me when the owner of a great manufacturing company calls me personally. I've been really lucky about that. Larry Seecamp has called me a couple of times. Both times, it just blew me away!

Met Chris at the Solvang show. At dinner that night my family went to a small restaurant and the only other table there was Chris and a couple of what I took were a couple of his employees eating. As they were leaving, I told Chris that I really liked his products and he said thank you and I said no, Thank you! Very much the gentleman!
