I picked up this nice little fellow on Friday, a quite small (3") Böker Tree Brand bolsterless slippie with 1 blade, nail file & scissors. It's my first stainless Böker, wasn't even aware of the fact they made them.

However, it has one flaw, one of the pins sticks out quite far. Because of the uneven stag it only partly touches the stag on both sides. It's pretty annoying, cause the sharp edge on the peened pin cuts your hand. It didn't put me off buying it, cause i liked it quite a bit and it was very affordable. Would just dremeling the excess pin be the right solution, or should i consider doing something else?

I wouldn't cut those flush. I would cut them down, but leave enough to peen over again. The peening keeps the pins from walking, which would be a bad thing as then your knife would disassemble itself as you used it/opened and closed the blades.

I would post this in the maintence and tinkering thread and or talk to some of the knife makers/ rebuilders to get the knife repaired. Or might even get in touch w/ Boker on it?;)

Just buff the pin in different directions with green compound on a buffer. This is how the maker finishes the pins. It will round the sharp edges.

Thanks for the help. I haven't got a full size buffer, but my dremel has a miniature one and i've got green compound, so that should work. But i'll probably have to watch out that things don't heat up to much, which is what these small buffers tend to do.

zeppos,

I like that knife!
Good looking and I just know it feels good in hand and pocket.
