Hey Guys,

I am planning to buy a small pocket knife for my girlfriend as a birthday present. Any suggestions?
She knows spyderco, and does some crafting which uses knife.
Also, does anyone have experience of giving knife as a present to a non-knife person? Please share:)

Thanks,

Melo

what size is she comfortable with and what colors does she prefer? My wife is a non knife person and she uses her custom hot pink mini griptilian almost every day :)

instead of just going ahead and buying a knife for my wife I let her go through the knives I had to see what she liked in her hands. She liked the feel of my spyderco knives specially the ones with a forward choil but she much preferred the ease of use with the axis lock on my mini grip. Once she decided on that I showed her the make your own griptilian page on BMs site. she messed around for a little while and settled on hot pink scales with all satin hardware/blade and partial serrations. I can pretty much guarantee she will enjoy the knife more if you include her in the process :D

Check out pink knives for breast cancer awareness. I think the ka bar dozier, benchmade mini grip and spyderco native comes in that charity model along with a lot of others. A useful folder, in a color she will enjoy, for a good price and a great cause. Good luck. Let us know what you go with. I am sure she will love it.

If she isn't into pink, there is also this Ladybug. It is quite small though, depending on the crafts she does it might or might not be too small.

The only knives I've given to non-knife people are SAKs. They've always been well received.

Slip joint squeak, super small starter with good blade ladybug, or pocket clip back up kitchen knife if needed dragonfly. All have a couple of variations to chose within those. Back lock on lady bug should still be easy enough to do 1 handed with a little practice. Dragonfly a bit more difficult.

My girlfriend has a bunch of pink knives that I got her, not cuz she likes pink per se, but that when she uses them at work, none of the guys will steal them ;)

She's got:
Some gerber flipper
Spyderco Native
Strider PT
Kershaw Shallot
Spyderco Ladybug(i think?)

and will probably be getting the miniGrip before too much longer
I suppose she's not a totally "non-knife" person tho... :)

there are differences in just how a knife feels with each individual.
the most noticeable is the size of a knife's handle.
i would suggest taking note
of the size of a said person's hand
before giving out anything just yet.
whilst we generalize that women on the whole
would take to pink, petite or quaint looking knives.
there is a light weight slicing dynamo
in the form of cold steel's mini tuff lite.
if she should care for a sheep's foot blade.

Direware:D:D:D

In all seriousness tho maybe a spyderco Dragonfly, like others have already said!

Benchmade 707 Sequel. It's what I bought for my ladyfriend because its "cute", usable, and hides in a purse really well. When I gave it to her, I showed her how to use it, and also pointed out how safe the Axis lock was to use (fingers not in the blade path).

My hand, her phone, her hand

Her hand, her knife.

She uses my Benchmade Nimravus when she needs a fixed blade.

I vote for the Izula II, BK14/11, or, if she wants a bit more handle, ESEE 3 for fixed blades. I got my wife a Kabar Acheron, which she carries in her purse. It's her legal, last ditch weapon if her natural talents (she come at ya like a spider monkey!) fail her.

If she's a girly girl, there's plenty of neon green, pink, and orange out there from which to choose.
Chris
