Hello folks. . . I recently posted pics of this little gem in the "post your regs" thread, but I thought she was deserving of a thread of her own.

I recently picked this up off the exchange from a very friendly and excellent seller named "snakedoctor07." The unit was accurately described and the transaction was a s smooth as hot, melted, delicious butter.

This particular Reg has had some tasteful mods done by a fellow forum member, but came with all the original components. She is smooth and sharp!

The interesting thing about this unit is the birth timeframe. It was brought into this world and took its first breath in January of 2002--this is the year/month that CRK switched from using BG42 steel to S30V steel. The birthcard on this unit is marked as having S30V--here is where the story takes a turn and gets more interesting. Upon disassembly for inspection, cleaning, lubing, loving, caring, and bonding I notice that there are NO markings on the blade steel to indicate that it has S30V. As many of you know, when there are no markings it most likely indicates that the blade steel is BG42.

Being quite excited about the prospect of finally having a small Reg in BG42 (I have wanted one for some time now) I emailed CRK to see if they could provide any input. I gave them the birth date and advised them of the blade being sterile and they said "it is most likely BG42 steel." However, in order for them to confirm I would need to send it in for their inspection. If indeed it is BG42 they would issue a corrected birthcard!

I have decided to just carry and use it for awhile and then eventually send it in for a spa service, but until then I will be stuck using my "mystery" steel!

Now, for your enjoyment:

That's a real beauty! Whether it's BG42 or S30v, it's one the best from CRK. Did you make the creative lanyard?

Very nice, I have been EDCing mine now for a couple of weeks and just love it. You have a great knife no matter what steel but I will hope it is BG-42 for you when you send it in. Make sure you let us know what it is when you send it in.

The lanyard came with the knife--it is a Hinderer bead with what appears to be a hair elastic (those stretchy things gals use to put their hair in ponytails and what not). It is almost like a tiny bungee cord. Ultimately, I cut it off and am not using a lanyard.

Thanks for the hope brother!

Nice story and delicious knife.
If I can, I would suggest you, if CRK will make a new BC, to not destroid the old one but keep with the knife.

I'm pretty sure crk does not anodize scales. It appears to be done by the owner or previous member. I have a small 21 insingo that I first stonewashed then anodized blue and it looks just like the OP pic. I stonewashed it in laundry machine using dish soap instead of wd40. Then anodized in a Tupperware of tsp(get at Home Depot in paint isle) using 3 9v batts seriesed together. In about a hour and 10-15 bucks later you can have the look above.

I really dig the blue, I was looking at the bradley cutlery alias in blue titanium and its fine looking blade

Nice score MostMen!!! Did you put that edge on that bad boy??

Very unique find.... She's a beauty :)

Fascinating story and great find, congratulations MMAR!

Thank you sir!

Thanks! No, the edge was put on by a previous owner. It appears quite nice in the pics, and it is very sharp, but it isn't quite perfect. One side of the bevel is a tad thinner for about 1" near the ricasso and the bevel widens too much toward the tip. It is also not quite as mirrored as the pics would have you believe--there are plenty of subtle grind marks. To me, it looks like a fairly well done, but somewhat hurried WE job.

Gosh, I've never seen one before. I have a Regular, but not a small as my hand-size is too large.
This one is a beauty, and I've seen and admired Maprik's work many times before.

MMAR, I just saw this thread, so sorry for not saying this sooner, but thank you very much for the kind words.

I love looking at your pictures and it's nice to know she's found a good home and being put to use. I also love the story about the potential BG42 blade steel, so please keep us all updated of any new information in that area!
