Hello, I am wanting to make a small bug out bag for my car, I have a big one in my truck but I want to make one that will fit in a small day pack, what items (besides clothes) and knife I will be buying another SRK for this kit. I am wanting a list of gear you would put in it. oh yeah this will be more of an urban type kit, not really wilderness

thanks

I took my issued Eagle Tac Vest and sewed one of the elastic shotgun shell holders over the stadard one to up my 12 ga ammo to 10 rounds. Using the pouches from left to right.
First two pouches- (2) 30 round AR mags each
Third- Glock 23
Fourth- tookbrush holder with 25' of 550 cord wrapped around one side and 100 mph tape around the other with zip ties inside.
Fifth- six chem lights
Sixth- several butane lighters, fishing line and large trash bags and a few power bars.
First aid pouch- two trau-medic bandages with mirror in between and a CMMG AA Task Light tucked inside dummy corded to D ring.

Mag pouch- two Glock 23 Mags, Blast Match and Krill Lamp dummy corded to D Ring.

With nothing mounted on pistol belt I can fold the vest in quarters and if fits nicely into a issued helmet bag with room to spare. Plenty of room in the bags side pockets for other goodies. By grabbing this bag along with a Camelbac and all the first line gear I carry on me I should be good to hook for most TSHTF incidents. My "go" guns beside the Glock 19/23 are my 590 and Bushy M-4. The pilots bag is pretty small and does not attract a lot of attention. Comments/concerns/ideas?

Paleo25, you might want to also consider the specific type of situations you could face. Where I live, this includes house fire, tornado, flash flood, or chemical spill. I live close enough to a railroad that I might have to evacuate if they have a problem.

At night, I put my briefcase beside my bed, along with a small duffel bag. In the briefcase, I put all of the things that I have in my pockets during the day. This includes a multitool and folder. It is easy to forget these things otherwise, especially if they are scattered all over.

In the duffel bag, I have useful everyday items that I might not have in emergency shelter:

Change of clothes
Paper towels
Toilet paper
Wet wipes
Shave kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, camping soap)
Small first aid kit
Bottled water
Food items

In my bedside gun safe, I also have a small zippered pouch with my passport, Social Security card, birth certificate, insurance information, address/phone book, etc.

I keep a pair of shoes (or boots in the winter) beside the bed, so I have only three things to remember. If I have to leave in a hurry, all I have to do is put the pouch and my handgun into the briefcase, put on my shoes, grab the briefcase and bag, and leave.

Comments and additions are welcome, as always...;)

I will be moving house soon, and as the weather in the North tends to be a tad colder than Surrey, I added a few bits just in case:
30Ltr Day pack
Hexe stove/tablets/matches/bic lighter/fire steel/tea lights,
whistle/mirror/mini flares,
Pat 58 waterbottle/metal mug/2 ltr bottle water/brew kit,
Power bars/dried friut/snickers/brown Kendal mint cake,
mini Mag/spare batteries,
poncho/fleece/thick shocks/gloves/hat,
para cord/cable ties/duck tape/super glue,
first aid kit/wet wipes/toilet paper,
compass/maps/pens/paper,
SAK champ/cheap fixed blade (see my thread about CS bushmans;) )

There are probably bits I have forgotten, I try not to play with it to often...I tend to eat the Snickers....:D

You're all over it, Nick.

Our auto kit is contained in a 24"X16"X12" zippered duffel bag. It contains a weeks worth of food (MRE entrees), tarp, water purification, blankets (2), extra clothing for both my wife and I, personal hygene, medical kit, hats, gloves, lite jackets, flashlight, cutting tools (USAF SK & Becker BK-7), esbit stove, fuel, stainless camp cups (2), emergency candles (2), plastic bags, toilet paper, paper towels and a survival vest that contains the smaller needed survival items. There is also a case of 6-1 gal. bottles of water, a folding shovel, saw and 50' length of rope that gets left in the vehicle. When we head out of town, I throw in some heavy coats, shelter, a couple of sleeping bags and a takedown bow w/quiver of arrows. I'm sure that I left something out, but you get the general idea.:)

Food bars, your choice, I like the Kias.

Extra Cell Phone battery fully charged.

Dental Floss; I like the Glide travel size for it's far greater strength and tiny size container.

Cayenne Pepper in a small nygene screw top bottle for instant blood clotting.

Small squeeze bottle of 99% alcohol for cleaning and disinfecting.

Small squeeze bottle of 99% hydrogen peroxide for water purification and lots of other stuff.

Small bottle of Potassium Iodine; tons of uses.

Pocket tooth brush; with small container of salt and baking soda for teeth cleaning.

Pocket hair brush 3" diameter and 1'4" thick.

Two extra large bandanas.

Small accurate .22 pistol and QuikShok ammo or whatever is the most accurate HV ammo for the particular pistol.

Small compass.

Waterproofed map of the area you are likely to be in with ALL streets. Depending on the area you travel in this can be a single detailed sheet or a book map.

Extra pair of socks and a tiny anti-perspirant to keep feet dry.

Micro First Aid kit; including a little bottle of New Skin liquid skin protector.

A little pair of folding reading glasses if you need glasses to see small things or read.

Palm Pilot with hundreds of pages of data copied and pasted into various places along with all the data you could ever need. The new little ones at Staples now are only aobut $80 and will hold tons of data which you can copy and paste into them quickly and efficiently from places like this. Plus all the contact data on everything and everyone you know. You can update a second Palm in an instant so that you can have one in a ziplock bag that is updated to your EDC Palm whenever you want.

Several high quality Zip Lock style plastic bags.

Small Fox super loud whistle.

Small bottle of tooth ache drops.

Several prescription pain pills; some Ibuprophen, any regular prescription drugs you need, several days supply; Benydryl in case of some sting or poison reaction; Gurana and Ghinko for increased alertness in case of exhaustion. Some caffein pills to ward off caffein withdrawl as I am a frequent coffee drinker as well as some instant coffee in a screw top plastic bottle. Four oz of Jack Daniels or grain alcohol from the liquor store for my mate who may be with me and would NEED a drink to keep her settled out if TSHTF perhaps.

Two extra little LED lights with the on switch as well as the press switch. Four extra AAA batteries for the minimag light and for the Palm. Tiny little AM-FM-Weather radio from CCRadio or Radio Shack with speaker as well as ear phone. Failing this, a little $10 micro credit card AM-FM radio without a speaker, just the ear phone, is fine as the weather radio stations are of little use these days anyway in most places. Long wire antenna for radio to boost reception if you may be in a fringe area; or want to get more distant AM stations.
