Small Buck lockbacks compared

Hey folks!

I am looking at getting a small lockback folder. Buck has like 17 of them. What are the differences? Since this will be my about-town knife (in Chicago) I want to stay at a 2.5" blade. I have a Paklite and a Bucklite Max when I can carry something bigger.
I'm looking at the 55, Slimline, and Prince. FWIW, I'm also looking into the Kershaw Grant Country knives (probably the smallest one of those if I get a 2.5" Buck, not going to get 2 of the same size).

Thanks!
Bob

The link APF posted will really help narrow it down for you, pick the specs you want and it lists them out.

Then, you have to decide between US made (some listed under the 3in- lock blades aren't US made). Then if you want a pocket clip/one handed opening or not.

The small Vantage is worth a look if you want one handed and a clip. For more traditional in a lock blade the Knight, 55, or Squire would fit the bill. The 55 is pretty chunky for pocket carry in my mind but that's taste.

Also, while you're at the Buck site check their web specials. Some great deals there if you like the offerings!

The 503 Prince is my absolute favorite small EDC. I carry it almost everyday at work. Had it in my pocket to day and thought it's time to buy a backup just in case.

Have recently acquired a Knight, a Vantage Pro 342 and an Apha Dorado. Pocket carry the Knight daily, will pocket carry the Vantage on weekends. Alpha could be carried in pocket, but there is a reason it comes with a belt sheath (size and weight). Knight is nice and small, and handy--unobtrusive in pocket. Vantage, while bigger, is not heavy, just thicker and longer--will carry it in pocket when hunting, along with 110 or Vanguard on belt. That said, am waiting for the Web Special Squire to try, but will likely stay with the Knight as it is so neat (during week it is used only for opening letters and packages etc, so no need for larger/longer). Were I still on the farm Iwould belt carry a 110 or larger Vantage, with Vantage 342 in pocket.

If you want something simple and refine as well you may consider a Gent, 525 or something similar. I like the 529 skins, their a little hard to find but cool looking. All really depends on what your going to do with it.

:thumbup: on the gent. It's a fine looking knife. Small, blade is only 1 7/8" and it's made in the U.S., and it's only $34. What's not to like? :D

Thanks guys.

I knew about the technical differences between them but was curious in a user comparison. I have a 55 and an American flag Gent on the way from knifecenter (also a Kershaw OD-2, Kershaw fixed blade knife, and a SAK as well as some free junk). Unfortunately, the Price I ordered must have went out of stock right-then so no Prince for me. Also, that screwed up my free shipping. Sigh...

Thanks!
