This is a small bushcraft knife I've been making in my spare time, it was made from a old Nicholson file (1095 as far as I can tell) that cracked in half at work...I annealed it and went to work as the images show:

surface ground it flat before milling the angles

right after initial harden, I drew the hardness back in the oven and it takes an aggressive edge...my quench medium is a water based lathe coolant, used it previously with success so have continued to do so

leather is fully sealed, will take a couple days to cure to the point I want it.

I will definitely be using this one in the field, feels great in the hand and the large cutout is the diameter of most firesteels so you dont need to use the edge for striking. :)

Looks like a great little slicer. Great handles

Nice knife! I love the look of that stag. Just fyi, Nicholson files are usually W1 or W2, not 1095.

I love it, especially the handle! Great job and thanks for sharing it with us.

oh true? I just assumed it was 1095 but thats cool to know.

Thanks for the comments guys!

Thats cool as heck. How did you cut it and grind it?

The edge angles I actually milled out (i'm a machinist) and cut it to the initial shape with a part off wheel (1mm fibre disc).
