Small camp axe

I recently got a small camp axe at a garage sale. There is no markings on the axe but it does appear to be forged. The eye of the axe has ridges inside it, do the ridges suggested the time period? Or the origin of the axe. Any info helps, thanks a lot

No guarantees, we'll need some pictures.
By camp axe are you talking about a boys axe ( 2lb or 2-1/2lb ) or a hatchet ? And are the cheeks flat or conveyed ? If they're conveyed it's likely older and has a good chance of being of quality ( still no guarantees though )

The answer is almost always yes. More than likely a Kelly paper label. Check out the thread linked by Rick, and post some pictures if you can.

When I went to file it to reprofile the edge it was amazing soft. Much softer then any other axe I had. So I'm not going to bother putting a handle on it. Thanks for all your replies
