Small choil . . . Basic 4

Hog brethren, is the small choil like the one on the upcoming Basic 4 good for getting one's finger on the blade for better control like the big/regular choil? Or is it's only purpose is to make sharpening easier? Or both? Or depends on the size of your fingers?

12/11 shoulder to shoulder at the trough . . . oink oink.

It is too small for a finger. It just makes sharpening easier and is a great place to strike a fire steel!!!

Fire steel is the function i would use it for. Otherwise it presents a snag point for some cutting tasks.
