I recently aquired a Small Sebenza from one of the forum regulars (Thanks Scott!) and much to my suprise, when I unwrapped the knife from the tissue paper (This knife is BRAND NEW) I discovered a Small Sebenza that consisted of a Classic blade and Regular Handles!!!

On the box and birth certificate it indicates the knife as a Small Regular. Since I am very new to collecting and using these incredible pieces, I had to double check. I compared the knife to my Large Classic & Regular. And there is no doubt, it is a hybrid.

So, what do you guys think? I don't have a digital camera, but I will try to get someone to take a pic for me. Then I need someone to post it so all of you can see that I am not crazy!

Looking forward to comments! :D

Stranger things have certainly happened. Are you sure that it wasn't a "swedge" option on the blade?? I am comparing my Small Classic and my LDC109 with the Swedge option and visually I can't tell the difference. If not, nice find ;)

I have a small Classic and small Regular Wood Inlay, the blade profiles are very close. Both knives were born in 2001.

If they are held in silhouete I can hardly see a difference. The Regular has a very slight change in angle on the spine about 1/3 back from the point. The Classis is straight on the spine from the thumb stud to the point.

The large Classic and large Regular are more pronounced in profile changes.

I don't know what to tell ya, Ronin. That is strange! I'll have to look at some of my others too. Hope you enjoy that baby! The small is hard to beat for EDC...

Professor.

Correction to my earlier post.

My Sebenza small classic has a spine with a gradual continious curve, not a straight line.

The Sebenza regular wood inlay has a spine with gradual continous curve with a bump near the tip (outer 1/3) that changes curve to steeper slope. Wow,,, does this make any sense?

FK

If that is so you are a lucky guy and have a unique knife. Probably more valuable. Post it!

Ummmmm......

What exactly is the difference between the "classic" and "regular" models?

Does anyone have a link to any pics?

Many thanks ;)

Brent...
:p

I have a little theory; the blade on the new style or “regular” Sebenza is now pointy-er and the spine straighter than when they first changed the profile. I can see a difference between the blades on the 2000 and 2001 GCS pretty clearly. It is most likely because Scott Cook is no longer grinding the blades, you can see from his custom work that he prefers to use a more definite drop point style.

surfing ronin, maybe you should check with the person you bought the knife from. Perhaps that person had two Sebenzas (one regular and one classic) and swapped the blade (inadvertently or, perhaps, intentionally--that person may have preferred a regular blade with the classic handle). Personally, I prefer the classic handle over the regular handle.
