Hello,
I recevied my state tax return and was gonna buy a Hybrid bike, however I have taken a second look at a pocket knife. The two knives in my price range are the Small Seb, and the Strider PT. So my question for all of you, what knife would make a great EDC knife? I realize both knife makers are of excellant quality and use the same material(s30v) and within $1 price difference at a local shop.. Whay say you?

I recently participated in a customized PT folder see here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346388

I have numerous small sebenzas.

If fit and finish is more important then out right strength, I'd get the sebbie. If perceived strength is more important, or you don't mind spending and additional $100+ for customization of a PT to get the sebenza fit and finish, then go that way.

IMO, a stock PT wouldn't generally be as nice as the sebenza. Even cusotmized the PT is much stiffer in opening.

It will be interesting to see the difference between the responses you get here and on the Strider Forum ;)

Since you asked here; no better made knife than the Sebenza. I have a slew of small Sebenzas I use for off-work EDC, old style "P", SC regular, LDC-109, all great knives.

Is there a Strider section on this site? I apologize as I don't come here often. Ast to the knives, I want a tough design and so far the PT is the choice. But I am open to your opinoins and experince.

There are Strider forums on other websites, bad for to post them here so an email is on the way to you.

I can say the small Sebenza is plenty tough, two ti slabs and a S30V blade. What will your use be?

Use will be EDC so light use. I just want a good quality American made knife that will last me a looong time.

If the local shop you referred to in your initial post has both knives there, try them out. You'll choose the one you like the best. They'll both last practically forever. If you post at Strider's forum, Strider's the best. If you post in a CRK forum, well .... you know what you'll hear ...

:)

I compared the two for awhile and ended up with a modded Strider PT. I prefer the ergo's of the Strider for grip.

Here are some comparison shots that I took:

I wasn't a big fan of the G10 slab, so I had it modded with a titanium slab. This increased the weight significantly (which I actually like). I also had the clip width reduced. The backspacer is damasteel.

BTW - just wanted to add that it was not an easy choice. I don't think that one is superior to the other. It all depends on your tastes. If you can, buy both. I wish I could have kept both but I had to sell one (Sebbie :( )

Great photo pictorial. Excellent workmanship on the Strider. (If I do that to my SmF, it'll weight a pound) ;)

I will be thinking this decesion over during the weekend. Dizos- great pics! Boink I know what your saying about posting bias towards a favored brand verusus the other brand.
I wish I could aford both, but then I would be spoiling my self.

I have a PT and I love it.I will also say that I just traded my SNG for a Wood inlay Classic Sebenza. In short I guess for me I like the PT better than the Sm Sebie but I like the Lg Sebie better than the SNG.
 :D
;)

Heck of a comparison and great pictures, dizos. I really like the mod that you did on the PT.

I had a chance to handle a PT and wasn't overwhelmed by it. Maybe I need to handle a small sebbie side-by-side with a PT.

I carry both! I have a small 2high mix Seb and a PT that stick with me daily. I don't know which I'd pick if I had to have only one. I've had the Seb much longer, but the PT is becoming a fast favorite. Cutting wise, my Seb does outcut the PT by a hair if any. However, my Sebenza has also been reground thinner than the average "regular" blade. Both knives are top notch and both came laser sharp....I'm sorry you have to pick one!
Matt
