small companion blade

I'm looking for a smaller edc companion blade. My normal EDC is a custom Grip or Stryker. I recently acquired an ATR that I want to carry, but it will not see any use. I also sometimes carry a Matriarch that isn't going to get any utility use. Im looking for something in the 3" range for most of my utility stuff around work and the house. This will be kind of like a do all knife for when I carry some of my other knives so it needs to be smaller, lighter, and hopefully not take up a bunch of pocket space.
I like the 484-1, but it may be a little big in the pocket.
I like the 485, but it looks so similiar to my Stryker
I'm considering a 555 Mini grip, but the plastic may not do it for me. It didn't on the full size.
I'm also looking at the 940-1, but I've never held one so I'm unsure as to how small is carries. It may be a contender. I like all of these knives, I just need some insight from users. My full size EDC takes up some good space in my right pocket so I'm looking for something that carries small.
Any opinions from owners?

Take a look at the 707 (or a 705, though they've been discontinued for years and can be a little pricey).

So you need a knife for when you are carrying a knife? A second knife so the first doesn't see use. Sounds like you need to carry a knife you will use.

I would agree the 707 and 940/943 are good options. The 940/943 carries as small as the 707 other than the added length which is typical not the issue for size constraints with me.

Ya most would agree. I like to carry all of my knives so that I can enjoy it more often, but the more exclusive or special ones I know I will not use.
The more I look at the 940 the more I like it. Make no mistake about it. This is looking for a reason for a new knife... I am MAKING a use for a knife when there isn't really one. It is much easier to convince my wife that I need a new knife when I can present her with a REASON I need it LOL

This is a long shot here, but does anyone have a pic or two that show the 707, 940, 484, and mini Grip in the same pics for comparison or any combination? I'd really appreciate it

I do.

The 940 and the 707 carry about the same due to the butt of the 940 being tapered. Doesn't take up much room in the pocket. The added length is almost unnoticeable. I will try to get this other pic up showing them closed.

Finally got it to upload. Hope this helps you in your decision. Personally I choose the 707 over the 940 for daily carry. My buddy chooses the 940, so it's kinda a wash.
Only solution is get one now and target the other later. I will be picking up the 485 to rotate with my 707.
And I know what you mean about using some knives more than others. I hold back on my some knives use the hell out of others. Some just get carried as in date night or similar.

i have been liking this one lately -2.88" blade- if i get another small folder, it will probably be this

+1 0n the 707. Hit BM up for a deep carry clip, and it disappears …

I don't know what it is, but I can't stop looking at the 940-1. It's as slim as the 707 (which I think is beautiful) but there is something drawing me to it. I spent most of the day at work today reading all the rave reviews and pulled the trigger tonight on a new 940-1. I really hope that it is issue free although I know Benchmade will take care of it if there are issues.
It seems like people either absolutely marvel at its magnificence or they hate it. I have to try it. If it doesn't work out for me I'm sure it will have no problems selling on the Sales Forum. I also got it for $240 shipped.
If there is anything I'm not thrilled with than I will sell it and buy a 707.
The pictures of it with the 707 and Mini Grips really impressed me. I also think that since it already has CF scales I won't be drawn to buying a custom set which a mini Grip would probably have to have. I appreciate all the insight and opinions.

Another +1 for the 707. I traded a mint one for an Emerson Mini Commander and I wish I had the 707 back. I wouldn't pay new prices for one but I had made an excellent trade for it and it is an excellent little EDC. I would also consider the 531.

Do you have a pic of them open next to one another? I like the 485, but I worry that its so close in size and shape to the 908 Stryker... which I do love

485 and 707 are close in size to 903 Mini-Stryker. I don't have a 903 but its close cousin the H&K 14716 is due in next week and I'll take open and closed pictures of all three then.

Finally got my 940-1. It's in perfect condition and it's definately small... I think I made a good choice since I definately wouldn't have been happier with a smaller blade. It's incredibly light and it came razor sharp. Thus far Im really happy
