On small Seb... its that when the blade is closed, and you put pressure on the lug right when you are about to open it... the blade does not have any play side to side. Bronze washers? I don't know for sure why. But that is a detail that has made me insane on other knives. I hate the fact that when you go to open the blade, it kind of moves.

I think it has much to do with the lock bar applying pressure on the blade. When holding the lock bar off the blade, mine had the slightest amount of play. Of the three I've owned, only one never had this play. Grabbing my BM Sequel and the Wenger SAK on the computer desk while performing the same motion reveals no play at all.

I am talking about in the closed position. I don't know how you can hold the lockbar off the blade when its closed.

And my BM 635 has play when closed.

Bronze washers or as some makers use Nylotron [nylon impregnated with molybdenum disulfide] are bushing s with good lubricating/wear surfaces.

Is it true that the bronze washers have a life cycle and after years of use, we can expect to need to replace them?

Thick bronze washers, tight tolerances in the blade hole, pivot pin, and bushing help as well.

When i read you stating at the beginning of opening, I thought you meant when the knife wasn't totally opened. That's when I meant to hold the lock bar off the blade. My bad.
But still, I'd like to have more Sebs without any play like one that I got. Maybe 3 of mine were made on Friday.

i have never had any sebs with any play. that is weird. i am sure crk would fix that.

Gotcha. You should send them back. Not normal at all. I have owned many Sebs and not one has had blade play.
