Small EDC Folder

I'm looking for a small EDC folder that is between 2 and 2.5 inches when close. I will be using it to open mail, dip cans and cut boxes. I would like to stay under $30.00. I already looked at the Spyderco Honeybee and Bug, nice knives but just not doing it for me. I guess I'm looking for something different from my usual brand (Spyderco). Any suggestions?

Thanks

Maybe a Kershaw OD-2. I don't have it, but I've heard really good things about it. It goes for around 15 dollars on Amazon.

If you like more traditional design a peanut or small folding hunter or swayback gent from Case may be the ticket. At around 3" closed you can find more modern options like Kershaws

I recommend the Kershaw Chive. only three inch's long when closed, two inch blade. you can purchase for $25 from the factory blems. I bought the black boron, beautiful knife. also, I cannot find a blem on it.

Chive! Great knife its one of the only knives other than my Delica that I've had 2 of, and the only one I bought again because the original was just plain worn out.

Al Mar Osprey if you want high end. Very small, and elegant too. (ETA forgot the price limit).
SOG Micron for a more tactical look.
I carry a Victorinox Rambler. Lots of capability in a tiny package.

Good choices but the knife has to be between 2" and 2.5" closed. I'm really liking the SAK Classic.

+1 for the Boker Subcom!

My personal recommendation would be the SOG Flash 1. It's a little longer but it's super light and has an excellent blade shape

If you can, I suggest you get the SAK Manager. It has all the same features as the Classic, but has a bottle opener + screwdriver and retractable blue ink pen. I love it. It is very very handy, especially when you need to jot something down after doing a cutting task.

Go a little bit over your budget and get a SOG Blink. It's ambidextrous and sturdy. Fun to play with too.

I will put these in order from most expensive to least expensive and give you the length. The more expensive ones you can usually get off e-bay used for much cheaper and maybe close to your budget.

Al Mar SLB 2 3/4 inches closed
spyderco cricket 2 3/4 inches closed
Kershaw Chive 2 3/4+ inches closed
Sog Blink 3 inches closed
Boker Subcom 2 1/2 inches closed

All great knives. I have all of these and have carried them all before. The spyderco has the sharpest blade, the chive is the most fun to play with, the subcom is the easiest to hold but is a lot of blade for a small knife. To stay in budget and get the best knife I would have to recommend the subcom or chive.

Hope this helps!

Whitty

Benchmade Benchmite
Kershaw OD-2
Byrd Robin or Finch G-10
CRKT Shrimp

...and if you don't mind another Spyderco, the Kiwi 3 is a nice little slip-joint.

Hope this helps and good luck!
