I had forgoyt that I didn't post the pic's of this knife and was playing with a new program trying to figure it out and decided to try this one. What do you think.
5 inch blade 4 1/2 inch handle forged 5160 steel,Brass guard and buttcap, blackdyed stag handle, etched dixie flag on blade. This was made for one of our service men that was shipped overseas, before 9-11
Should have showed this off but I guess the way my mind was this summer I just forgot..Oh well here it is now...

Hey Bruce, Nice knife as always.
Is that the paint shop program ?
If so how do you like it?
Who done the etching looks good.
Oh, tell Donna she looks nice to

The paint shop program is going to be tough to learn.I did figure out that I was saving at low compression on my other program but it was then to big to post when I saved it on its highest setting so I figured out how to make the picture sive smaller on the paint shop pro program and keep the clean resolution in the picture. Now to start getting better pictures of the knives.

The etch,I did.
It was easy,I just painted the outlines and what else I wanted to keep the same color as the blade with fingernail polish and a small brush then took the polish and made a frame around the etch and then coated the entire blade with fingernail polish and then etched in my ferric chloride just like I would with Damascus. With some more practice I might get it to look real good.
Simple process, just getting the art work down better.

Should I do a tutorial on this?

Thanks for the info on the paint shop Bruce.
You did a good job on the etching and yes
you should do a tutorial. My problem I`m
not an artist.
Does Donna yell at like my wife does for being
up so late:rolleyes: :D

You can make stencils or use little stickers that you can find in the art store and they will work also for the art work part of the resist and then just paint the rest of the blade with the polish.

Nope Donna goes to bed early as she has to get up early for work, she just yells if I wake her up when I come to bed:D if you know what I mean;)
Been playing with a animation,I don't know if it is to big to post or not so I will try it on another reply here and see what you think.

That is a really neat knife Bruce, just the right size to carry and do big tasks without all the weight. Great idea on the etch too. ;)

Bill

You can get small rub on letters or small stickers at the craft store that will let you add somones name to the blade also.If you want to etch the blade to show the temper line, just reisist the picture and or name on the blade then etch as normal and then remove the resist and then polish the blade as you normally would and you will end up with a nice pattern on the blade also.

Bruce That is one dandy! I really liked the etch. I guess I fell a little behind with all the things with paint stencils. You guys lost me there. Cory

Cory,it's simple paint what you want to keep shiny and etch the parts you want dark colored, simple.
