I've been looking for a small fixed blade to carry daily, that isn't just a shrunk-down tacticool knife. I'd like something with all the features of a fancy gent's folder, like wood, or pearl, damascus, anodized titanium, etc.

I've looked at the small Benchmade Snody design, and Don Cowles' production knife: http://www.cowlesknives.com/DC_Mainframe.htm (under his "Gallery" page), and I'm having a hard time finding more choices.

I know Boker is coming out with lots of small fixed blades under their Boker Plus brand, and some of those are nice looking.

I'm just hoping for more ideas.

I'd like to keep it at or below about $100, and have a decent steel (AUS-8 and 440C are acceptable, damascus would be great). I'm wanting something that has a clip-on sheath for pocket carry, or something similar that doesn't have to go on a belt. If it has a horizontal sheath for a belt, that's fine.

Again, I'm hoping for a fancier little knife 2-3" blade with a thin grind, natural handle materials, fancy Carbon Fiber and Titanium is okay. Micarta is okay. Orange or Black G10, possibly, but not preferably.

So, let me know what you think.

What about Lonewolf Trailmate?

It is about 140 USD though...

That's a great idea Huugh. Steve's a great guy. I had the chance to play with one of the prototypes, and it looks like the perfect size and shape for a variety of utility tasks.

Nice!

Thanks!

As an idea, I'm liking all the McCusta knives out there, and if they made a smaller fixed blade, that's the direction I'm interested. I've seen a few of the Seki City fixed blades with stone or pearl on the handles, and those have appealed to me.

Your going to want the spyderco warrior :D

Check out the custom fixed blade section some great talent!

Any of the small Bark River knives would work. I carry a Mikro Canadian II often and I'm very pleased with it. The PSK model would be a good choice, several of the wood handled variations cost around $100.

Rob Johnson who occasionally posts in the FS section made a beautiful desk knife for me with some of his home made 320 layer Damascus steel with a Sambar Stag handle.

The model is called the Minori and was designed by Will Leavitt for me, Will gave Rob permission to make them. It is a beautiful knife and comes with a tooled sheath that fits nicely in the pocket. The bottom of the sheath has an additional layer of thick leather toward the top third of the sheath allowing it to stand up vertically on your desk.

It is a work of art and reasonably priced.

Rob can be contacted at rtj1981@hotmail.com.

I also have a couple other knives made by Rob, he is a true craftsman.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

So far, I've really loved that Case Desk knife (wish I could afford the pearl:eek:) and the Lone Wolf Trailmate.

Found some great-looking handmades in the Makers' section, as well.

Having a hard time finding knives less than $100, though.

Still looking...
