Hello, I posted a thread yesterday that I was looking for a small hard use folder that could take anything and that was cheap (which is rare for folders marketed hard use) someone recommended a Svord Peasant, and I got turned on to traditional folders! I spent the night looking at peanuts, trappers, etc. ANYWAY

Since the Svord are dirt cheap I still have some money left to buy myself a nice little fixed blade edc. here is what I'm looking for:

-Blade of 3 inches or less

-tool or stainless steel,

-under 65$-full tang construction (this lil knife will get abused a bit)

I'm really a noob with traditional knife, so I need your help guys!

thank you for your advice and tips.

Check out Condor knives, most are 1075 carbon steel well within your price range.I've seen good reviews on the (Rodan)which is a large FB, but they offer several models of basic beater FB knives that wont make you weep!if lost or used up.

Bear and son. This one is Damascus and stag. But they sell stainless in various handles and blade sizes

McAhron is a member and he made this I carry everyday concelex sheath sown into the inside of my leather jacket. It was only a little more than your stated price range. I REALLY like it. Mine is made from 1095 and black micarta. Did I mention I really like it?

I'd say pick up a short blade puukko or a Schrade USA Little Finger like the one on top of this photo. These are my favorite fixed blades.

The middle knife is a Gerber A400, and a very good fixed blade, but not a "hard use" knife. If you tried to baton that blade you'd most likely break it. The bottom knife is a short puukko given to me by our 'jamppa".

I really like this little GEC #H73411 Up Land Hunter in elk stag. 7.25" OAL, with a 3" blade, tip to plunge.

Under 65 USD is going to be a bit tricky unless you take the Mora road, but full tang they're not, same with a lot of puukkot.

Queen Cutlery does some belt knives in D2 might be possible to get one at that price.
For a bit more, I'd strongly recommend my latest discovery HESS Knifeworks of Michigan. Really well made crbon knives that look and work excellently, modest price too.

If you like your Svord peasant, Svord also makes fixed blades. Their EDC Hiker is basically a fixed blade peasant without handle scales. Very reasonably priced too.

Jeff that GEC is cool

Yeah, I really like that one too. Haven't tried any of the GEC sheath knives yet. Jeff, have you used it much yet? Can you tell us a little about how it performs?

My EDC traditional sheath knife is a Bark River IMP. It's discontinued, but you may be able to find one if you look around.
Here's a generic pic, stolen from the web. Mine is in black canvas micarta with hollow pins. A little bit above $65 when I bought it, but not my much if I remember correctly.

Seconded! Bark River makes some excellent fixed blades in the $50-60 range. I can't remember what mine is called (Mini-something?) but it was $55, has about a 2" blade (IIRC in 154CM Stainless) and black canvas micarta handles. Sorry, I'm at work and can't remember the details :p It comes with a leather sheath that is pretty good, but not great.

Vince and Alex, the Up Land Hunter is good 1095 carbon @ 58-59 HRc, and takes a beautiful fine edge. I haven't done anything "tough" with it, as I have O1, W2 and L6 knives of similar dimensions which are tougher. But it eats cardboard nicely.

Sorry to the OP, as this knife is more like $100-$125 . . . I missed the $65 ceiling the first time through.

A used or new/old stock USA made Schrade Sharpfinger 152 Oldtimer is an excellent knife for the money. They are about the same size as the GEC above, but run from $25-$40 on the auction sites. For about 15 years it was the only fixed blade I used for cleaning game and other outdoor chores, before it disappeared from my garage.

Spend a little more and get an all American Blind Horse Knives Bush Baby or Patch Knife.

What models are you referring to? Most Bark Rivers I see are over $100 :(

I've put this little MooreMaker through the paces and it's done very well. Quite affordable too.

A rat tail blade can take plenty of hard use
And there are many very fine knives for under $65

You have a huge selection of lovely wooden handled Scandinavian knives that are very robust
