I need one for my brother, probably something he can just keep in his pocket, i was looking at shivworks loco and a handfull of other knives. he doesn't want serations or a double edge just a nice small sheeple friendly utility knife.

How about a Benchmade 160 Tether? It has a 2 inch blade (5.75 inches overall length), it's fairly flat (with its' little kydex sheath, it makes for great concealed carry, such as in a pocket), and it comes in 440C steel (at least the current ones do).

I have one on the way from a trade (plain-edge, satin), and I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives.:).

Well, I'm gonna give you some different advice... go to www.camererknives.com and ask Craig to make you another "lil stubby". This one is the little elk handled fixed blade at the bottom of his gallery. I was fortunate enough to get this one from Danbo's clutches, and I tell you... I love this little knife! It is elegant enough to consider a "gentleman's fixed blade". It is tough enough to consider a hard use knife, as Craig makes them that way. The blade length is sub 3" and is certainly small enough to slip down into your pocket or reside relatively unobtrusively on your belt.
Give Craig a holler, he will make you something that you will be proud of to own, and unafraid of to use.

My experiences sorta told me that we honestly don't need to worry about the sheepy factor as u see, how often do we flash our blades to ppl in those socially-unacceptable situations? On the same token, if u r worrying about the authority, chances are if, knock the wood, u've got run into a time where the authority is not happy with the blade u r carrying, even if it is a SAK, if they wanna take it away or give u a ticket or so, it's unlikely that u can get away with it anyways. So I would say that when choosing a blade, simply go with the one that u like best. Thus the choices for u are plenty out there. My recommendation, a Mini Buck/Strider or SOG Mini Autoclip (even better the X42 one). All are cool stuff. Have fun. :)

How about the Benchmade 210 Activator? That thing looks perfect for pocket carry. I believe that it has a 2 inch blade and about 6 inches overall.

It depends on your budget - Dozier makes a number of knives to fit the bill, so does Tom Krein whose neck knife has a 2" blade. If you are looking for a 'factory blade' what about the Katz Vet's knife or if money is tight what about the CRKT range their Fixed Falcon is a nice knife.

Check out a Dozier Straight Personal. Small, fits the hand well and nicely made. It can slip into a pocket real easy, or wear it on the belt with the excellent cross-draw sheath and nobody'll even notice it, especially if you get black micarta scales.

Gosh, lots of choices, but two that come immediately to mind are the Benchmade Outdoorsman and the Bark River mini-Canadian skinner, which I think makes a not half-bad little utility knife.

Mini-Canadian is a terrific little knife. The "Mikro-Canadian" is coming out this month sometime and you may want to wait. It's smaller (hard to imagine) but will still fit a large hand comfortably. They are wonderful little knives and convex edge - so easy to keep sharp.

BlackJack offers the Slick and Small...several handle material options and two different blade steels...while they all come with leather sheath, BlackJack offers a pocket sheath for this fixed blade.

You might also consider Anza Knives. I just received one of their PK2 knives. It has a 2.5" drop point blade with a 6" OAL. They are not fancy - blade made from a file and Diamondwood scales. Very functional and sturdy little blade though for $25. They do offer other options like Micarta scales, but I think that the off-the-shelf knives are a great bargain. If you do a search, you will find some recent discussion and reviews of these knives on the forum.

I was just using my Blackjack Small yesterday. I'm always astounded by how well this little knife mows through cardboard. I'd honestly call the Blackjack Small one of my ten most useful knives.

I bought a Greco Dangler Drop Point for $35.00 + $15.00 shipping from John Greco aat his going-out-of business sale. It has a 3" blade, but he made a very nice little knife the Dangler Caper, with a 2 1/2" blade. These are all hand made and a steal at the price. He is also a very nice guy with whom to talk if you and he have the time, so give him a ring and check on availability.

I am very happy with the Fallkniven WM1 for this category of knife. It has a nice handle that fits my XL hands very well. The kydex sheath that you can buy with it makes for excellent neck carry, or with a teklok carries very well horizontally on the belt. Of course the VG10 blade holds an edge excellently. http://www.fallkniven.com/bilder/stora/wm1lila.jpg
