Ok, I'm looking for a small folder for my brother. He has several criteria that he wants me to strictly stick to, and I've added a couple of my own.

  • Single blade
  • Roughly 2-2.5 in. blade (nothing approaching 3)
  • Pocket clip
  • Preferably lockback, definitely no framelock
  • Under $30 shipped
  • Decent steel
  • FRN or similar handle material

Since this isn't for me, there's no talking me into saving for a better knife, etc. He didn't like the Subcom family of blades.

It's too big for his taste, but otherwise you can't beat the Browning Icestorm at the price. A Mcusta for $26.99!

I also thought about the dragonfly. It's wonderful. Perhaps you can subsidise the amount above $30 as a gift? Here is an ebay store that sells it at $29.99 and what can the shipping be for something this small&light...

Finally one really nice small knife that will easily fit in your budget: the recently released Boker M. It's surprisingly sturdy at the price and quite pretty. This ebay store sells it for $17.95 . The big 'M' button is the lock. I have it and it is quite charming.

I vote for the Spyderco Cricket and Spyderco Dragonfly FRN.

I like the Cricket a lot more, especially in SE...

But the new Dragonfly FRN sprint run comes in white and it looks awesome!

Wow, knarfeng! I immediately thought of the Robin too, but thought it didn't have a clip for some reason. I'll have to ask him about it now.
