I am looking to purchase a small folder with a blade under 3 inches for everyday use. Names that keep coming up are benchmade and spyderco. I was wondering if there was anything similar to Benchmade 10210 Mini Ambush Pardue, or the SOG Mini X ray vision. I like the simple, but functional designs. Possibly something with a handle in the 3-4 inch range an a blade under 3 inches, though not a tanto blade. Price is not so much an issue as opposed to functionality and how long it will last.

AG Russell might have what you want. I like the Brute. No pocket clip but you can get a inside pocket sheath with a clip

Thanks for the input. Do you have any opnions on CRKY Point Guard or the CRKT Folding Falcon (not on their site but on AG Russell)?

Get a Spyderco Paramilitary or Delica. There are MANY awesome Spydies out there!!!

I've owned a lot of knives and I keep coming back to my David Boye
Cobalt folder, not overly expensive but not cheap either.

Mine is a leaf shaped plain edged version, see their site Here

I'd not get the 440c cast blade, but go for the Cobalt version, they just
seem to keep on cutting.

Yep, sure sounds like a Spyderco is what you're looking for. For everyday carry it's the first one that comes to mind.

Be sure to check out the Camillus CUDA EDC.
It is a strong frame-lock designed by Darrell Ralph and can be had in 154CM bladesteel for about $50.00 dollars.

Good luck,
Allen.

CRKT knives generally don't use as good steel as BM or Spydie, check the steel on the specific knife. People who have owned the small point guard have complained that the handle is just too small - I tried one and didn't buy it for that reason. Dunno about the Falcon. In any envent, you can't possibly go wrong with a BM mini-grip or a new-model spydie delica, esp in ZDP-189 steel, and also if you like speed-assisted opening the Camillus Blaze is a great knife of the right size and good construction.

NOTE - it is harder to find a blade actually under 3", but you can file the tip down a bit to make it legal if you need to do so.

You could also get a Fallkniven U2, great little knife! i LOVE mine.

Will second that vote! The U2 is like having a small, locking Razorblade in your pocket! ;)

Thanks guys,
I got the Benchmae mini-griptilian, but the RSK MK1 model made with Doug Ritter. It has a wide-chord drop point, which I preferred over the tanto or modified sheepsfoot. I'll keep you posted when I get it, but so far it is a Christmas Present-6 more days!

I'll third the vote for the U2. I'll go one further, though. Any of the Fallkniven folders. The P folder has great steel, and the most beautiful, precise grind I've ever seen on a production folder. The TK3 is immaculate. Mine is so well fitted and precise, the line between the locking bar and the blade disappears when opened fully. All are some version of the drop point. The TK3 is just beautiful, though, as is the P folder.

Well, I like the CRKT M16-01T. This is a beautiful knife and very functional. The Cold Steel Voyager also is very nice. Light and functional. About the blade length, both knives have arguably less than 3-inch blades if you begin counting the length from where the edge actually begins. The CS measures about 3.75. My first pick would be the CRKT.
