Small folders I want to see

I wish makers would produce more higher end, small folders.
OAL around 7 or less, folded size 4" or less. The blade would fall into a 3" category.

There are several folders coming out, or already in production, that I like, but they're too darn big and heavy for EDC.

I'm not big fan of the short, fat little folders, i.e., Boker Nano/Pipsqueak, Lionsteel/DPX HEAT, BM MPR, etc. They often weigh as much as a large folder and take up almost as much room in my pocket. I just want some scaled down versions of the 3.5 blade category.

Folders I would like to see produced in a smaller version:

Umumzaan or Sebenza 25
Lionsteel TiSpine
Any ZT

How about you?

No kidding, a couple of great, super solid folders. I have both, just don't carry them much. I would if they were smaller.

Friend, you're in luck.
I think these three are perfect in describing your wishes for a 3" quality folder.
Sage 2 Spyderco...tradition in the making...
A.G. Russel Acies 2 ....this one is a great model.
Bradley Cutlery Alias 2 in anodized blue...a beauty.

All three of these "resemble" loosely...a small Sebenza.

I would consider the ZT 770 a relatively small folder. Just a little bit bigger than a Skyline. The 566 is just a little bigger than the 770 as well.

I would be all over a smaller Spyderco Valloton. A mini BM Adamas would be nice. And a smaller Southern Grinds Bad Monkey would be awesome.

I have an Acies 2. Fantastic folder, one of my faves.
I have an Alias 2 as well. Love it. Its about 10 years old and smoother than almost every folder I have ever handled. (Must be getting broken in):D
Not a fan of the sage. I do like my Caly 3's though.

I know what is out there, I want what isn't. Specifically, smaller versions of larger knives that aren't in production.

I actually just ordered a Rod Olson Quick Flick. It's a button lock flipper with bearings, different and cool. Can't afford to many customs like this though.

I'm with Benchwarmer. The ZT 770 is a LOT of knife in a small package. It's my only Elmax blade currently.

I like the 0770. I have almost ordered one several times. However, it is .50 inches longer than my Mini Matrix, and almost .75 inches longer than my Acies 2. That is a lot. Every "little bit" adds up, pretty soon you are near the average 3.5" folder. Plus, the 0770 is assisted, and I really don't like that feature.

If they offered a more premium version without Speedsafe I might buy one.

BTW, I like big folders, just not for EDC. I recently acquired an HTM AXD. Its a monster, and much better quality than the humongous Cold Steel offerings. I also just got a Curtis F3 Compact. Guess which one I carry more? (The Curtis is actually a little bit too small, and no, its not an XM killer by any means. Not sure what the hype is all about on these, although I think its better than a Sebenza.)

Hey, I understand. You sound like someone with a very specific idea of what he wants. That's both understandable and commendable. I myself am not concerned with length to that degree, as I'm a large guy and have deep pockets (not a money reference! I wear jeans 99% of the time, and they have deep pockets!). So, I can carry most knives with little difficulty or concern. The assist feature, I think it's neat and do like my assisted knives, but I also have plenty of knives without this feature.

If I wore slacks more often, I think I'd probably be a lot more concerned about weight. As is, when I am dressed up to go out, my knife tends to go into my sport coat inner pocket.

I'm 6' tall and have medium size hands so the actual size of the knife isn't the issue. (Well, maybe the AXD is pushing it.:D) I just like carrying a folder that disappears more readily than a larger one. My Acies 2 is rugged as can be, yet relatively small. I would much rather carry it than a full size Sebenza. My Strider PT is extremely compact, yet it does most of what my Sng can do.

If you think about it, there really are 3 major sizes of folders, 3" blades, 3.5" and 4". Most manufacturers produce folders in these three categories. True, there are many variances with some being less than 3" and some more than 4", but most fit into the 3 sizes. (I'm seeing more 4" + sizes coming out now though, Arghhh!)

All I'm wanting is a +-3" size version of the current 3.5" or 4" versions already available. And yes, a 3.25 blade is usually to big. It makes the average folder almost an inch longer than a 3" model.
