I'm looking for a new toy...

I really want a Gransfors either a hatchet or small forest axe.

I plan on using it most in the RV and the back of my house
for fires etc but I want to use it for roughing out staves, making out door projects maybe roughing out big bowls etc.....

Confused and not rich enough for both. thoughts?

Answer is pretty easy,
SFA is longer, better on (casual) felling, limbing...
Wildlife is shorter, better on more precise work...

Sure SFA is more versatile, as you can always grab it in the middle of the handle to use it as "sort of Wildlife", but if you plan to do mostly backyard "carpentry/woodworking" work go for the specialised tool. Actually you might even consider Carpenter axe.

Perhaps your right... I can always but the SFA next year :) Then the carpenter axe the the throwing axe... Man I'll have more axes than a viking in a few years...

I have a Fiskars axe that is about the same size as the SFA. I use it for felling smaller trees and limbing. Anything much larger than a 6" diameter calls for a powersaw as far as I'm concerned. Much less and I can use a machete. I don't have a full size felling axe for that reason.
I have a 6# maul for splitting and an old Plum half-hatchet to use for small kindling if necessary. Normally I use dead-fall branches for kindling any how.
But if I could only have one axe it would be a SFA or something of its ilk. That size just seems so versitile for my needs as a homeowner. YMMV

I love my SFA! I keep it in my truck for use when camping or as the need arises. It cuts anything that I ask it to cut and makes short work of small wood for the fire. Steven
