Hi guys!
I have been playing with this idea that I could cast small forge from fire proof cement.
I have had a "one brick forge" for a while and I'm quite happy with it but I have had some problems to curl the flame correctly or evenly.
Have any of you tried this kind of thing?
I have a general idea how to do it, I could use plastic soda bottle and make a hole in it and glue short plastic tube in the side of the bottle. Then put this "system" in a bit bigger container and then wrap some steel wire around the plastic. Pour the cement in and let it dry. Then just burn the plastic away and I would have round nicely shaped fire hole. For last I could drill the hole in the bottom to get the blades, springs and such in.

Do you think this could work? Or am I just wasting my time wondering these things?

That has two main problems: refractory cement being dark (this means will abosrb a lot of radiated energy, and being dense , this meaning that it will take a LOT of time to heat up properly.
There's nothing like soft firebrick and/or kaowool /ceramic fiber wool.
It must be sealed to prevent ceramic fiber (carcinogen) to go around, but it's very good.

As for the one brick forge I had the same problem, but I made the cavity square and made the burner holes square to the brick side.
It will leave hot spots this way.

So i made another, making the cavity far smaller and oval in section, with the burner holes put at 45 degrees to the side, so that the burner nozzles point up, at a tangent with the interior curved wall.
It works far better this way.
I use anothe firebrick to close the back, fo work with small pieces, so to save up more heat.

I have seen some yellow fire proof cement in French hardware stores, maybe with that it could work. My "one brick forge" is actually two bricks that I hollowed in oval shape and I have some wire holding them together. I couldn't find soft bricks in Geneva's area so I had to use those. It takes bit longer to heat up but since I changed Butane to Propane I have less trouble with that one...

take a cofee can put a Cardboard tube in the center , Pour in your Castible let it cure now you got a "Table top " Forge . put 1-2 burner's in at a angle and you are "Styling" . Ok Just Try it .
