hello all iv been interested in getting another airgun for small game hunting ive had a gamo varmint hunter but it brokedown and had bad shoths even from a rest but i was lookin at a hunter 220 or 440 i think its called and i only want a .177 i prefer them more than a big slow .22 but i was also looking at a .22 rifle or a .17 any one wanna help me decide or persuede me?

A bolt action .22 rifle will fire CB caps, standard velocity shorts, as well as long rifle ammo. This gives you alot of versitility in one package, and a bolt action is the most accurite type of rifle.

I have a couple of Marlins that are stainless steel with synthetic stocks that are very accurite shooters.

The model 981T has a tube magazine that hold 25 rounds of shorts, 19 rounds of longs, and 17 of long rifle. Thats alot of squirrel and rabbit shooting with out reloading.

With a cardboard tube from a paper towel roll duct taped on the muzzel its quiet enough for urban pest use if your carefull.

I have a XS-B5-10 - http://www.funsupply.com/airguns/b5pump.html

Very accurate and a multi-pump which I prefer for hunting. It's well-constructed and portable (fits in a daypack) but the factory sights aren't very good. The last few pumps are hard and the loading gate mechanism is a bit of a hassle. But it's a great little rifle for the price.

My 10/22 and 22/45 fire cb-longs and super colibri just fine, you just have to manually cycle the bolt. On that subject, does anyone know a good place to get the old style Colibris, and are they noticably quiter from a pistol than the supers?

I thought about getting one of those a while back, but the idea of pumping it 8 times before each shot turned me off. I do have the XS-B3-1 though, and I really like it. I'm still hoping for a harder hitting version of my IZH-61, but I don't think it will ever happen.

if you are set on an airgun, check out Mac 1. Great service. They do custom work as well, and they usually have a selection of used guns. They are one of the few places I would feel confident buying a used airgun. Looks like they have a used gammo in stock :) They also have an RWS springer in 22 - ooohhhh :)

FWIW I recently got a CZ452 (22 bolt-action) for cheap and I'm super pleased with its accuracy and toughness.

I have an old single shot .22 bolt rifle that I shoot shorts in. Not too loud. You used to be able to get the Mark I savage for about 125 bucks. They shot OK, but if I got another I would get the Mark II with a five shot mag for a few bucks more. The single shot made you fumble slightly to load it.:)

I have a 10/22 and a CZ 452, the CZ gets the nod for accuracy, but I actually carry the 10/22 more as I like the size and semi auto. The 10/22 is plenty accurate for small game hunting and with a few tweaks can be made nearly as accurate as the bolt gun. Chris

runningboar hit the nail on the head... the semi-auto feature of the 10/22 is stellar and not to mention, FUN!!!!!!

My local WallyWorld has Marlin semi-auto .22's for about $25 less than a standard Ruger 10/22. Anyone use a Marlin? Are they reliable like the 10/22?
I'm not looking to turn it into an assault rifle, a couple extra magazines would be all I'd need. So I figure, what the heck, I'd buy extra mags for either, and $25 can buy a lot of .22 ammo... but if Marlin's aren't as reliable then the $25 extra is worth it.

That is also a great recipe for a number of NFA violation that could easily set you back ten years in prison, and a $10,000 fine for having a non-tax paid, unregistered suppressor. I highly recommend that if you actually have done this, not to do it again, and that you keep your mouth SHUT. :thumbdn:

For squirrel hunting, I have had great experiences with a .410 shotgun, 3" shells loaded with 6 shot, and a full choke. I prefer the Remington 870, but there are other brands and models too.
