I decided to make another one of these. The blade is 4 3/4" long, 5160 steel. I've had many requests for one of these knives but I can't remember who this one should go to since my computer crashed last week and I lost my list of people who might want one. Anyway, I wanted to share the pics. Thanks.

You must have some templates and jiggs made up for those survial knives. They all turn out first class

It was only earlier this year you posted the first one as test for interest, how many have you made now, 10 or more?

:) All going to very happy owners

Is the blade and handle machined from one piece, or if not,how are they joined ?

Spearz, I've only made 6 of these. I should have made more but I don't like making the same thing again and again. It gets boring.

pitdog, the handle is a separate piece that is threaded to the blade. I forgot to take a picture of this one before assembly but I'll take a pic of the next one for sure so people can see it. It will not come appart or break at the joint with normal or even hard use. The blade is 1/4" 5160 steel that is differentially tempered. I draw temper the spine and the tang.

The more I make these, I feel the better they get. Not that the first ones were bad but I just think I improved with the new ones.

I think I would want a longer blade, but this is one of the few hollow handle knives that I have seen that I like. Good one.

Thanks for the kind words...

Hengelo, the handle is bought already made. All I did was modify the hole where the tang goes in to make it wider.

The way you get a pattern like the handle had is preformed on a lathe and is called knurling. I special atachment with a couple hardened wheels with a pattern ar run against the spinning piece.
