Small Inkosi. Micarta vs Plain

I already have a plain inkosi, but not sure if ill like the Micarta more. thats why im asking, maybe im missing out?

No small Inkosi here, on my large 25's, 21's it can go either way. Personally, I'm a fan of micarta and have several with micarta inlays. Personal preference more than anything else. The micarta inlay is a tad bit wider.

I had both and still have the micarta. I generally prefer micarta and carry this and a small micarta 21 pretty much daily.

I have a large micarta inkosi and love it. I’ve had a sebenza with micarta inlays as well. Aside from appearance, the micarta makes the knife noticeably more comfortable to use, in my opinion. That being said, I’m going to even things out one day and pick up a small plain 21. I love plain CRK’s, but I REALLY love micarta.

I am liking the micarta on my small inkosi. Had a small 21 that was plain and I believe I like the micarta better. Not a huge difference either way for me but seems to feel a bit better in the hand. I have removed clip as well and just drop in pocket.

I have a small Inkosi with red micarta and like it. I still don’t like it more than my small 21s. The Inkosi feels a lot smaller than the 21 to me. If it weren’t for the micarta inlays, I’m afraid the Inkosi would feel too small for comfort. YMMV.

I have both and like both, but I carry the inlay much more often. On a small knife like this the modest increase in handle girth due to the inlays is nice and improves the grip.

I'm new to knives. Two weeks ago I never even heard of micarta or the idea of an 'inlay'. A month ago I stepped up to an Umnumzaan, which does not have inlays and is big. To compliment I really thought I needed a gentleman's knife, like the Mnandi. But that little guy was just so frail looking. Ultimately I decided on 'dressed-up rugged' with the small Inkosi.

This little guy I've had for 24 hours, and yes my thumb hurts despite having no issues flicking out the Umnumzaan. Opening the small Inkosi is even more challenging than I imagined. Today things are much better, but I still have a long way to go I'm still in the stages of breaking the detent as step 1, then wrapping the stud around the scale slowly. At least now about 1 out of every 3 opening attempts goes somewhat smoothly without pain. I have to pop it open by wedging in my thumb nail, I still have been unable to open with just the skin on my thumb. Closing the blade has been a non-issue.

For me, at the end of the day, Plain Jane is just a tad too plain looking, although I appreciate the feel of the velvet smooth space on the Umnumzaan. Same reason I don't have a drop point blade, because it looks too much like a steak knife. I think the micarta is amazing. I'm real happy I got it.
