If that's a small(ish) chip, I'd hate to see what a big chip would look like. :p

I'd say try to sharpen it out.

Same here. I had a chip like that on my BK2 last week from when a neighbor borrowed it for something (which apparently involved slamming it into the gravel), it sharpened right out.

The other option is to either live with it dull, or get a new one, and send the old one to me :).

And welcome to the forums :).

Is that Spyderco VG10? I have had a similar problem just another day. But I did not drop it - just have no idea how and when...
At the end of the day I just "sharpened it out"...
But it was my EDC Endura and I did not care that much how much steel I take off and how thick the edge bevel gets - it is already a bit beyond that. In your case I would probably try to live with it - it does not matter that much, it will go eventually.

its a gerber bear grylls knife. the one thats the folder version of the ultimate knife. i'l try to get it out next time i get over to my dads place, as a carpenter he has all kinds of good sharpening stuff. if not, like you said it can be with lived with. 95% of the blade is still fine.

this is the knife: http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-31-000...09WI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1314245053&sr=8-3

I actually found the Gerber Paraframe that I EDC out somewhere, and it had a chip on it similar to that. It sharpened out just fine.

Just remember when you're sharpening to go back and forth between each side, so the point of the blade stays centered, and it doesn't create a "wave" in the blade.

got it out finally. just used a regular sharpening stone we had in our tackle box at first and then finished it off and put a surgical edge on the rest of the blade with an 800 grit japanese water stone. cant even tell it was there :D

If I get a chip near the tip, I sharpen it out. If I get a chip in the middle of the blade, I leave alone and let normal sharpening gradually obliterate it. No sense in wearing out a blade prematurely over a single chip.

its good you got it out but there is no way in hell you can put a surgical edge on any blade with just an 800 grit stone alone. At least I wouldn't want you operating on me with that knife!

Some people suggest leaving chips in a blade and let it sharpen out over time, but I for one would be bugged by it so long as I carry the knife. Call it OCD I guess:thumbup:.

Same here, I dropped this, took out most of the chip & bent near the tip, but the single one on the straight edge is there until normal wear takes it out. You can see it right at the bright spot. It still shave nicely (on my face) and if you're not making sushi with it, it won't matter.

One can get a hair whittling edge with just an 800 grit stone.

As would I...regardless if I carry the knife or leave it in the drawer.
