Im debating either getting the kershaw
starky ridge or the Ken Onion Ricocet
I definatly like the drop point style.
Any thoughts or comments?
Thanks

Unless you are 100% sold on a prominent drop point, I would recommend the new Avalanche. It has speed safe and it is much cheaper than the Riccochet but it stl has CPM 440V (bead blast) blade steel and titanium liners. It is the best value of any of the speed safe knives. I wouldn't recommend the Starky Ridge. It is a good knife but personally I think the stud should have been placed further towards the base of the blade. As it is almost an inch of the blade is lost to the thumb stud for certain cutting motions.

Does the speed safe work better on the
newer knives like the ricocet and the
avilanche? I have heard the older random
tasks had some serious problems. Also
what about sharpening the 440v blade steel?
Is the rockwell past 60? I really like the
speed safe concept and would like to get
the ricocet or possibly the avilanche.
I personally think the whirlwinds and
blackouts are junk. Any responses will
help.
Thanks

The newer speed safe knives work very well. The Avalance in particular has a great action. The RC on the 440V blade from Kershaw is about 56-59. The blades are fairly easy to sharpen if you do not let them get too dull.

The Ricocet is a fun novelty knife with loads of conversation ability. Utilitarian blade design and nice grip.I bought one. Well made and nice fit, good looking almost gent's knife. I just hope you never have to deal with the service dept. Never again for me.

I agree with Anthony. The Avalanche is very nice knife. Excellent steel, assisted opening, just the bead blasted finish is what I do not like about the knife.

I have also Whirlwind (for 40 USD it is an excellent knife) and Ti ATS-34. This one has the best ATS-34 steel of all my ATS34 knives. It does not have the assisted opening but otherwise it is nice little knife.

knifeoutlet.com has the ricocet on sale for
99 smackers. Think I might give them a shout.
Thanks for the replies.
