I need a small knife with the following characteristics.

-lightweight (Spyderco ladybug size and weight is what I am after)
-partially or fully serrated blade
-lanyard hole
-MUST LOCK CLOSED as well as open (I am finding this to be the hardest one)
-won't break the bank (this won't see a lot of action)

Any suggestion are appreciated.

The Kershaw Chive or Scallion both have those features as does the Leek. There may be others but I have those knives in my arsenal.

Thanks guys, those are good suggestions.

They don't seem to be available serrated, but that is not a deal breaker.

I'm looking forward to learning alot here on the forms.

Cheers,
Jesse

Very small opinel. I think they redesigned the locking ring to lock closed. This used to be an option only on the medium to large models. Get a chainsaw file and serrate it yourself.

Benchmade did make partially serated blades for their original Benchmites with the titanium handles. They were limited additions and can be pricey and hard to find, but it would fill the bill perfectly for you (all except the price point that is :) ).

Sounds like a Kershaw Chive would be a good place to start.

I think the Kershaws also are available with a partly serrated blades. I got my wife one because she cuts quite a bit of rope at work.

The chive is a great knife.
I don't know too many that lock closed, but I know some of the Kershaws do.

The Chive and Leek have slide locks. I think that the Scallion does as well, although I don't have one to check. The Benchmites lock closed automatically, with the Kershaws you have to lock it.

There is also the Kershaw Mini-Mojo/Mojito. It locks closed and fits all of your needs except have the combo edge and it is a bit bigger/heavier than some of the others mentioned here.

Another vote for the Chive here. Excellent little knife that just disappears into your pocket, and is easy to maintain a razor edge on. Plus, the A/O is fun to fiddle with.

My second choice would be a SOG Twitch, which meets all of your criteria, but it seems slightly heavier than my Chive. The chive gets carried more, but I prefer the blade profile of the twitch.

So, I'm assuming you have a serrated ladybug?

Check the byrd medowlark. I think that is the small one. someone can back me up.

Not a bad idea, it won't need to be pretty after all.

Here you go, a small knife recommendation: I recommend a SAK.

 I guess I deserved that one. :)

It would be perfect if it just locked in the closed position!

So far the Benchmite is in the lead, mostly based on price.

This is just going to hang on my climbing harness until I need to cut some old webbing off some anchors (maybe a couple of times a year), or perhaps hack my own arm off if it becomes irretrieveably stuck  (even less often).
