I have a Chive as an EDC and I would like to put a small knot of rope off the end of it. Aside from doing just a noose I am kinda lost as to what other types of decorative knots I should look at and where to find how to tie them:confused: . thanx

You could do a portuguese sinnet, which looks like this:

The Chinese button knot and it's doubled version are attractive, semi-spherically shaped knots.

...Don Luis, whats the knot on your SAK?...
On the top SAK the knots are done with six strands, after folding a piece of cord to make the loop, I added two more cords, which when folded give a total of six strands, with these I tied a star knot, then a Mathew Walker, then a Diamond knot.

On the alox SAK, I folded a thin, stiff piece of climbing accessory cord to make the loop, then tied a lanyard knot followed by a five turn Mathew Walker, followed by another lanyard knot.

There's a pretty good thread on the Spyderco web site forum. It has some links as well.

You can learn some knots and combine them, tie one after the other to make fobs and bell ropes.

In this picture the five turn monkey fist is the only knot tied with a single strand, it has a doubled two strand lanyard knot added to make a loop, the longer fobs are six or eight strands combining several knots, a crown sennit is used to provide length and separate the various knots: diamond, star, rosebud, Mathew Walker and little lump.

Edited to mention size: The Monkey fist is about 2 inches in diameter, the longer bell rope is about 10 inches long.

I don't use a lanyard regularly, but when I do, I use a length hard braided cord with a 3-layer Monkey Fist knot in the end - similar to that on Don Luis's marlinspike knife.

In the woods or on a bike, I drop the knife in my pocket with the Monkey Fist exposed for rapid access.
