Small Leatherman's

I've been thinking about replacing my Victorinox Classic that resides on my keychain with a small Leatherman. Anyone have any comments on the Micra or the Squirt (most likely scissors model) and how they compare to the Vic? From what I gather, both are similar size to the Classic, maybe weighing a bit more. It seems like a bulkier keychain carry but if the features outweigh that slight detriment, I'm going to pick one up. Which one?

If you are going to replace a SAK Classic with a Leatherman Micra or Squirt S4, I would say go for the Squirt S4. The finish will get scratched up but the tool is nice. I have and use the P4 and the S4. My original Micra stands in a small PSK as a backup.

Not to confuse the issue for you but I have also found the other small model SAKs to be very good as well. Consider the Rambler, MiniChamp or MiniChamp II, Manager or Midnight Manager, etc... I like the combo of a Photon Freedom clipped to a MiniChamp in the pocket.

I'm near the MD surplus center now and have bought several of the Micra's that I assume come from the airport.

For $5 each they have been a great buy and I have several of them in first aid kits and one for my jeans watch pocket. Very good tool for the size and the $5 price!

Yow! That is so cheap! Are these new/used/surplus? Are they available to the general public?

I have the Squirt P4, I would like them to make a S4 with all the features of the P4.

The blade on the Squirts is only shapened on one side but is a decent knife.

My opinion is this: If you want a blade stick with the Swiss Army. If you want a pair of scissors or pliers go with the Squirt. BTW the pliers are only for light work and cutting no more than light snare wire; cutting coat hangers will likely break it.

As a side note: has anyone noticed the amount of Leatherman pliers that have been broken? See them all the time at a local outdoor swap. Never seen a broken Gerber (my first multi-tool). If you do see a broken multi-tool for dirt cheap get it and send it to the factory for replacement. Just because someone didn't take advantage of the warrenty doesn't mean that you can't. :D

I use the Midnite MiniChamp II as my EDC. Very small and very handy. Lots of tools. Sheeple friendly. Love it.

I've had the Leatherman Squirt P4 and S4 for some time now and they are both quite useful. I recently got the Radioshack version (Squirt EL) and was surprised at how useful it is. The wire strippers work great and there's still room at the end of the pliers for needle-nose functionality. I also noticed that it had a true phillips-head screwdriver which I think is a great improvement over the flat-head phillips found on the other Squirts. I wonder if they will ever put the true phillips-head on either the Squirt S4 or P4. I wish they would. The flat-head phillips works fine but I find myself being extra careful with it whereas with the regular phillips I am more confident in it and therefore tend to use it more often. Sorry for babbling, I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
