Well I got my Gerber Sonic today and umm , well.
Let's just say the little Streamlight I got last week is far brighter which makes me ask... Ok I know Jack-S about voltage and batteries and so forth.
The Streamlight uses 4 little 'hearing aid' type batteries and , for its size puts out an impressive amount of light , now this Gerber Sonic is cool and uses 1 AAA , I love that shape and matte black finish , I also love the fact that it uses a very easy to obtain battery , but the light output is a little on the low side. Is it because of the battery types ? anyone know ? hehe.. Sorry for being dumb on this but my expertise lies in other areas.
On the other hand I bought a little (realllly cheap) light for $1.99 , it's sort of neat , aluminum , knurled and runs on one AAA , however it is also far brighter than the Sonic.
Things that make me go hmmm...

Ok finally , I'm up for other recommendations for low priced little LED's , if you folks know of any.

Thanks !!

- Dorcy AAA at Target, maybe $6?
- Inova Micro Light at Target, $7
- Photon Freedom, $11 at brightguy.com, tho shipping will kill you
- I think that countycomm.com sells Photon-like knockoffs for about $1 each.

Lots of others, all the way up the price scale.

L-r: Arc AAA, Dorcy AAA, Sonic AAA and Peak AAA.

cheers

I'll second any vote for the AAA dorsey from the 'mart.

I've been edc'ing one for about four months now, and its proving to be a great little light. Well built, good run time, good light. It puts out a well defined spot of light at good range, and with no lights in the house it lights up my way to the circut breakers very well. In the woods at night it lights up the path for about 25-30 yards when I give our corgi her last outing of the night before turning in. I've been carrying it in a nylon and velcro pouch with a sak just behind my right hip.

I'll third the Dorcy AAA from Walmart. $5-6, I carry mine on my keychain, and have got one for the wife. It's small enough that she actually keeps it in her purse.

Ok , thanks folks , I saw the Dorcy but didnt care for the general look of it but for the price I think I'll give one a whirl.
I really like the Peak at thier website I saw and it's not too pricey.

What I think would look cool is a small sized like the peak , either an AA or AAA that is made of brass , wouldnt that look neat ? I mean real brass so it would get that classic tarnish look.
Any lights out there like that ?

Check out www.lighthound.com. Look at the ARCs and Fenix L1P and L0P in particular for nice, but expensive, small lights. Check out some of the Nuwai lights for something a bit cheaper but still nice. He also sells very bright Faux-tons for $1 each.

Hey , thanks for that link , man theres a lot of light candy to choose from !

:)

The River Rock AAA LED from Target is one heck of a buy at 10 bucks. Very bright and durable as its namesake. For a keychain LED, I would buy a Dorcy or PrincetonTech.
