I'm trying to decide what I should get next. I'm looking for a very small FB, something with easy retention, one piece, lightweight, that I can carry with me when I run at night. I'm leaning towards a push knife or something like the Perrin La Griffe. It has to be really small with a thin neck sheath (I wear it around my neck on an extra long chain and hold it in one hand when I run. Weird, I know, but it works for me.) I'm looking at the Benchmade CBK and the Emerson La Griffe, but I can't decide... I hate knife shopping time... too many decisions!

Depending on local law, that BM may not be a good idea. It's a nice knife (I've got one) but not for public consumption!

Save a few bucks and pick up a CRKT Bear Claw. Like La Griffe with a fat (removable) handle.

I looked at the Bear Claw, but I like Emerson's QC better. The CBK is legal here, it's in a shady gray area, but it's legal. It's mostly the size and the sheath that are attractive, I have a couple neckers that are almost small enough for my wants here, but their sheaths are so damn clunky.

If you like the La Griffe you need to look into the HideAway Knife. They are more expensive, but they are at least as effective and around half the size.

It sounds like you are talking about a self defense blade, so I would go along with Bob on the hideaway. Another possibility might be something like a Spyderco Merlin folder with a kydex neck sheath. Just throwing it out.... :)

BM Activator?

Thought about that, but I wanted something with a really secure sheath, and while the Activator is pretty, I needed it to be a skeleton grip and a kydex sheath with a good retaining system so I can A. Wash sweat off easily, and B. Make sure it stays in while I run.

Yeah, I know... a lot more expensive for half the knife... I do like them, but I can't afford one.

Even the new "utility" variant? You can get one of those for about half the price of the originals.

I'm liking the SPOT... I'd forgotten about that... and BM has a newish necker that I'd also forgotten... hmm....

i like bud nealys FB's for edc myself, have an amoeba and a pesh kebz, both are lightweight, easy to carry, excellent sheaths, imho the very best edc FBs around.

as far as production i like the MOD razorback, pretty good knife/good sheath, light.

Spyderco Moran, perhaps? Comes in two blade styles (upswept or drop point) and with a nice concealex sheath with Tec-Loc. I know it's not a neck knife, but it *is* very light, and you can wear it in just about any configuration.

I'm trying to keep it as small as possible, both knife and sheath. I did discard the CBK out of possible legal fears... current two top contenders are the Emerson La Griffe because of the finger hole and blade shape, and the Atwood Large Keyrambit, which I fell in love with. Maybe I can get Peter to make the blade a little larger... hmm...

Take a look at the A.G. Russell Hunter's Scalpel. It's tiny, the sheath is hard plastic and the thumblock gives bombproof retention.
