Hi!

Please help me finding a new small liner lock knife for my wife. She is a handy girl and did brake the blade on her Spyderco Cat. She likes G10 and one hand operation of the knife. Any suggestions? Same size as the Cat. About 6" open.

Sincerely
Olof

Do you still have the Cat? If so, would it be possible to post pics of it?

How did she manage to break it?

The cat is still avaliable, may also want to check spyderco's "value" line (based on the second smallest in the line (of 4) the 3.3" tenacious)
The ambitious is near the cat's size and G10 liner lock, also the spyderco Chicago but it'll be a little more expensive.

And if you really love her you could get her the 3" $100 Sage1, S30V blade, CF scale'd liner lock.

I agree with the previous post, the cat is still available.
Also The ambitious will give you the same cutting edge with about the same length, but you lose the finger choil.
or you could upgrade to the persistence to gain another 1/2" of blade length.
Or if you wanted to upgrade the steel, how about a Dragonfly in VG-10 or ZDP-189 ?
Only downside is you lose the G-10, but the FRN is very strong, and light weight.
How did she break the knife ? Is it something that Spyderco may warranty ?
Can you post a pic please ??

Kershaw Centofante ~$40-$50
Kershaw OD-2 $20 (The most flipping fun I've ever had with a knife)
Kershaw Chive $25
Kershaw Scallion $30

Spyderco Air $125 (Think Sebenza's younger brother)

CRKT Badger $20

Benchmade 707 ~$100 (axis lock, more easier than liner lock)

Either of these knives are amazing depending on your budget.

Thank you for good suggestions!
I know that the Cat is still available. But I kind of lost my faith in that knife. She was cutting some thick zip ties (plastic strips). Put the knife behind one and twisted, pulled. Snapped clean off trough the Spyderhole. I likes the Dragonfly but she do not like the backlock. Price up to $100 is ok. It needs to be handbag friendly. She use a Fallkniven U2 for now. Right size but no linerlock or similar.
Tried to upload pic but was not allowed.
Use Tapatalk and it works fine on other forums.

For separating tough to cut materials I acquired a pair of bonsai scissors, they are tough enough for most any task short of needing tin snips.

How old was the knife? For it to break like that it'd have to take quite a beating beforehand. 440C is pretty good stuff when properly treated, and it seems like a bit of a warranty issue.

I know that other tools would be better. But when the only thing you (She) hade in the pocket was the Cat you use it. And the zip ties was not that thick. I broke quit easily. I guess it is about one year old. But sending it to Spydero is quit expensive. And aim not sure that they will replace it. I have the Delica 4 and PM2 and they have managed much heavier tasks.

May I assume that you live in Sweden? If that's the case, contact me and I'll see if i can have a go at their customer service. I've contacted them before with good results, hopefully the same will happen this time.

Well aim from Sweden but lives in Norway. If you send me a pm with your address I can send it to you. Were do you live?

I'm not a paying member, so sadly I can't send PM's. I don't know how the moderators of this forum would look upon me posting my mail addy here for you to be able to contact me, or if I could simply leave it as a visitor message for you.

Just FYI sending it to spyderco W&R will be a complete waist of time/money, no matter the cause spyderco will not replace a blade, not even for extra $$.

Maybe a CRKT Drifter? Very affordable, 6.5" total (open,) thumb-studs for one-hand opening, liner-lock, G-10...

Good luck! :)

Lilja, I recommend that you check your profile for visitor's messages. There might be something of use there.

Just another FYI, the CRKT drifter is nothing more than a double priced sanrenmu 707 with SMR markings replaced with CRKT markings. If you like the knife just pick up a SRM 707 and you'll have lots more finish/color choice than you do with the drifter.

Have you checked out the Spyderco GB Air? I've been thinking of picking one up.

Yes it is pricey, but once you have it in your hands....you'll be blown away by the smoothness, you won't want to flick it...its like a pivot on hydraulics

That being said I just can't put down my OD-2 its too much fun!
