I am looking for a very small non-stick frying pan. I would like it to not exceed 6" in OD. Ti would be a plus, as would ceramic over teflon. Any suggestions? And, thanks in advance for recommendations.

I had a 8 1/2" teflon alum. Too big, and too heavy. This is for a minimulist solo pack.

I've got a very small lightweight omlette pan (not made for outdoors) that I only use in the kitchen, (usually when I'm camping I've got a group so I need somthing bigger), maybe check that avenue out. I think it could work for what you want.

You know, it's strange, I was thinking last night while sleeping about how to make my Snow Peak pan non-stick. I was thinking about polishing the inside to maybe 2500 grit and see how that works.

That's what I use. It's light enough to carry in my pack if I replace my snowpeak 900 micro fry pan with a shaped piece of aluminum pie pan. Many trout and sausages have met their glorious end in that pan. I wrap it in my spare bandanna when I pack it up. Cleaning has never been an issue. I just pour some hot water into it and then wipe it out. No problem.

well fifty bucks for a skillet.
that's a lot of eggs.
i'd keep digin' till i innovated something for less

Cast iron is the answer. Okay, yeah, yeah, I know, it weighs more than the rest of your kit together. But man, that's some cookin' right there.

The lid on my mini trangia pot is a non-stick fry pan. Haven't used it yet though so don't know how well the coating will hold up.

Edited to add diameter of lid is 5.5".

anything "nonstick" other than cast iron works great, for a while. Then its a steady diet of flouninated tetracarbons..( teflon).

mmmm chemicals........

no thanks...give me the REAL deal any day......CAST IRON.

Sound familiar - it should, as these are your words.

Ahh snap!:D

GSI makes some nice kits that are nonstick or Hard Anodized. I have the Pinnacle set that has a really nice fry pan. It is 8-9", but light because it is aluminum. Take a look at some of their smaller sets. They go for around 35-40 bucks, and are around the size you are looking for.

Cast iron is the best, I am not man enough to carry it though. So I have searched the yardsales and online auction sites till I have found some antique carbon steel pans that are stamped out of sheet steel. They are as light as a lot of the modern pans sold for backpacking, season just like cast iron, are light enough to carry and best of all 10 bucks is a fortune to pay for one. Chris

its in reference to the 4" knife rule, not cookware.... ;)

Here's a pic of my work horse, think I paid 3 dollars for it at a thrift shop, egg is for size reference. Chris
