I need a small fixed blade (3" or 3 1\2") with a small of the back or shoulder strap rig. Anybody have any suggestions?????

By shoulder strap rig do you mean Mecop's Mercharness? I do not own one but have herd that they are top notch. Any knife that can be worn and drawn inverted will work with that system. There are many leather knife sheath makers on the board that make very nice sheaths for small of the back.

I would NEVER carry anything SOB!! The chances of injury are too high.

And if you are thinking of Mercop's Mercharness, then I would say go for it!! I do not own one, but have heard nothing but great things about it.

Small of the back - bad idea. Mercharness - very good idea.

While I very rarely will use a shoulder rig, when I do it's a Mercharness. I like the KISS principle and this is it in shoulder carry. I've been impressed enough with it that I ordered a bunch from CRKT (and Mercop) to have on hand as an extra option for my sheath clients. Simple, inexpensive, and WORKS!!

pardon me for asking but what's wrong with carrying (gun, fixed knife, folding knife) in the small of the back? Did a few searches and found nothing to speak of...

Beside the fact that SOB carry is only concealable when standing facing someone, it is slow to draw, and the draw is telegraphed. But far and away the most important reason it's a bad idea, is the fact you are putting a metal object across your spine, which could cause a severe injury during a "rough and tumble" situation. You can if you want, but no way am I going to do that.

Hey Guys....

Again like everyone said the Mercharness is the way to go...

Not much I can add to this thread that hasn't already been said..

Besides it's a Real pain to resheath...

"Besides it's a Real pain to resheath..." can anybody say Crocodile Dundee? What a load of Hooey! Everybody "knows" you can't carry a Bowie knife concealed. :) :) :)

In a real self-defense encounter, there's a good chance that you, your attacker, or both will hit the ground. If you land on the unforgiving, solid, knife handle that's in the small of your back..... enjoy your spinal injury! (If you survive the attack).
