Small or Large? ATS-34, BG-42, or S30V? Plain or CGG? I can never decide.......

I'm feeling extremely charitable today, so as crazy as it may sound I'd actually be willing to take 5 of them off your hands so you won't be tormented by the decisions. And all for free.

Hmmm... they all look so nice... Heck just carry them all together today, problem solved ;)

What is your shipping address? Also, I am only willing to cover half of the shipping.

I used to think one user sebenza would be plenty enough for me. Little did I know it would only be the beginning.
Can never get enough sebbies.

dtmbinb, I really dig your taste in folders and feel your pain and when you figure it out, don't forget to come back and guide your brothers out of the dark and into the light, so that we may all have eternal bliss.

How does the ATS-34 blade compare to the newer S30V in regards to sharpening and edge retention? I heard BG-42 has higher retention than S30V, but is more difficult to sharpen. I haven't heard too much about the ATS-34, except that it was used prior to BG-42.

ATS-34 steel is a fantastic blade steel in every respect. Many custom makers still use it as their steel of choice. Between this older steel and the current S35VN, most typical users would be hard pressed to find much difference in performance (IMO). I feel that one of the main reasons Chris switched was because in his heart he'd like to use US manufactures for as many of his parts as possible. ATS-34 is Japanese, BG42 is from Latrobe (US), and S30V/S35VN are from Crucible Metals (US).
