Small or Large???

I own several Sebenzas, and have since 1998. I love them, they are by far my favorite knives. Up until recently, I only owned small plain Sebenzas. I have since added to my collection, Woodies, unique graphics, and damascus Sebbies. But they are safe queens. I have purchased a couple of large plain Sebenzas recently and I love them as much as my small Sebenzas. I carry several knives for numerous tasks, but my small sebbie has always been my primay EDC, it always occupied my front right pocket. So here's my problem. Now I can't make up my mind, should I replace my small sebbie with a large? Or is the small Sebenza King?
Does anyone else have this problem? What should I do? Small or Large?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

I can't make up your mind for you as to which one you would prefer. You should carry your large as your primary for a week or so, and decide for yourself which you prefer.

I'm not sure what you want from us. Your basically asking all of us to help you choose between two knives, the only difference between them is size. The are LITERALLY identical in every functional way. Sounds like an entirely subjective choice to me. Does it feel good in your hand? Does it handle the jobs that you use it for? Sounds like you have a winner!

The only suggestion I can think of:
If you like the feel of the smaller Sebenza but you want a little more cutting power, order one up with serrations.

The small is a lot more sheeple friendly and a lot easier to carry especialy IWB but for most cutting tasks that extra blade length can make a big difference.

I carry my small every day for blade length legality but carry my large in a sheath when I have good reason.

If I could legally carry the large every day I probably would.

I have just looked at the above and I dont think it helps at all :D

I find the large reg Sebenza the one for me. But when I need something just a little more discrete I use my Mnandi. I had a sheath made by G2 to carry both knives at once. Though for me if it had to be only one folder, my large SS Damascus Sebbie would be with me.:)

Jason,
Since you already own both large and small Sebenzas you can just let the mood of the day make the decision for you.
I used to think that I would never carry anything bigger than a small Sebenza but now I use a large one as my EDC.
Honestly, my cutting chores could be easily done with an Umfaan but then again for most of us knives are more toys than tools.

Might as well have fun with your choice rather than agonizing.

Thanks guys.
Sorry about not being particularly clear, I wanted to know which Sebenza you prefer, Small or large? And more specifically, why do you prefer the Small/Large? I was hoping that your responses might bring to light things that I had not thought of.

Thanks again,
Jason

Jason,

I've owned small and large (regular and Classic) and I lean towards the large.

Simply. . .the large fits my hand better. I enjoy the blade size of the small but the slabs aren't thick enough to suit my needs and desires.

Currently, I have no small's in my gathering.

Blade preferences. . .I drool over the Classic blade style yet I only have 1 Classic. And have 4 regulars !

Go figure. ;)

IN that case.
Large. As a carpenter I have all sorts of jobs for it where the larger blade helps, as well as the larger leverage you can put on the larger handle.

I like eating apples and oranges and my large is great for cutting these while eating. Also I'm a pretty big game hunter and when the time comes to field dress a deer or elk my large Sebbie does the job better than anything. I've used a small Sebenza to gut a whitetail, but it was more work than I needed. The large allows me to reach areas I normally would have a harder time with the small. The large seems to give better leverage as well.

Well, I think the correct answer is "both". I always have a Sebenza in my pocket when I leave the house, but whether I carry a large or a small depends on what I have on schedule for the day: where I am, what kinds of cutting tasks might come up, etc. I make my choice accordingly.

I have both the Large and Small Regulars. The Large Sebbie is the perfect EDC pocket knife for me. It fills my hand just right and lays flat in my pocket unobtrusively. The small is my backpacking blade paired with a Sable III or one of the Finnish style puukko offerings.

When I am only carrying one knife it will be the Large without a doubt. It really boils down mostly to handle size for me but the extra 1/2 inch of blade steel comes in handy too. I like the heft of this blade.

I use my large regular FG Sebenza the most for work. I wear german bundswehr pants a lot because they have a special pocket sewn inside the right cargo pocket that can take a folder quite nicely- especially a Sebenza. Accessing the knife is quick and very convenient with these pants.

The small regular is what I use when in business wear or business casual. It's the perfect size for that type of EDC and still is plenty robust for tough cutting jobs.

Either way I use a Sebenza every day.
