Small pits in blade

I'm at the final finishing stage on a small batch of blades. Working on a hand sanded 800 grit satin finish. I'm noticing small pits, mostly near the edge that are to deep to sand out at this point. Where did they come from? The steel is W2 from NJ steel baron, and the heat treating was done at Pete's. Still a new-bee looking for answers. Thanks!

Let’s see a picture of it. Where the edge bevels ground before heat treat? It could be pitting from oxidation. We provide gas shielding if your worried about scale and pitting. If the blade was not protected from the oxygen then you have a layer of decarb that would need to be ground off anyway.

I'll see if I can get a good picture. The bevel was ground to about .04" before heat treat.

pete's or peter's heat treat in pa. ? were the blades forged ?
