I just thought i'd show something i've made today. It's not finished, but it's quite nice.
I'm not really a devout christian, but the symbolism intrigues me. So i thought about making a durable light cross i could carry in my pocket, sorta like a worry stone.
Then i thought about G10, and it developed into a small durable pocket cross, that could be used for self defense.
Thus was born, the PPC, Pocket Protection Cross.

(Shown in hand, alongside a well known Case Peanut.)
It's a hair over 3 3/8" long, and a hair over 1 1/2" wide. It's 2/8" thick.
Made from Jade green G10, cut from sheet with a jewelers saw, filed and sanded under water, then rubbed with a bit of sesame oil.
I'm not quite happy about the finish, just yet.. But i'll get there.

I appologize if i offend anyone with this, as i'm aware that some might find it sacrilegious. It is not meant in that way.
I believe it might be important, to have some kind of item you can touch and fiddle with, while you contemplate deep things. That's why i made it.

What do you guys think?
Why haven't anyone else thought about this before?
Also, after a self defense situation, it might be easier to explain a small cross in your pocket, than a brass knuckle of some sort, or for that matter, a tactical pen.

I'm sure we have plenty of handy people here, who can do better than me in many ways.
I'm just wondering, why have we not seen small personal crosses or suchlike, made from G10 and its like?

As always, thoughts, comments and criticism are welcome. Just keep it clean and to the point. :)

Pretty cool
gives a whole new meaning to
"Do you have a little religion in you?"

What could possibly be sacreligious about that ? Looks cool but sort of long on the bottom part in my perspective.

When I was a kid I had an aluminum 'pocket cross' that had scritpure on it , I promise i lost that cross 3 different times , two times it came back to me , the third time it was gone for good , sadly.
I wish I still had it.

You may have inspired me to do a project with some of the G10 I've had marinating in my shop... although in the last month I have found out something I did not know my entire life , that is I'm actually a Jew. The Star of David would be a lot tougher to make from G10 , of course. :)

I made my daughter a small cross out of 304SS. I made it for her so she can wear it during swim practice and not worry about the pool water messing it up. The cross will have a ss bead chain (like they use for dog tags). Her oldest sister has one I made out of lignum vitae, it has held up very well over the years.

I have some scrap jade micarta, maybe I'll make a cross out of some of that some time.

While it is neat I have to wonder.........a "cross" for self-defense???

Well, the idea came to me after looking at some G10 kubatons and brass knuckles. Then i thought, "How can you carry around with you, something that doesn't look tactical, but can be used for self defense."
That's how i came up with it.

I've seen impact weapons shaped like crucifixes before. It makes sense to me, if you're looking for something that won't cause a ruckus or get you in trouble. Authorities are far less likely to give you a hard time with a religious symbol than a kubaton or something like that. Right or wrong. I'll leave it to others do debate the morality of it all.

Makes sense. No one will give you a hard time about it, even at the air port.
