Hello looking for a small pocket knife the size of the gerber mini paraframe. I lost my mini and wanted to buy something with bit better steel. I will probably also buy another mini, but was wondering what else is out there that is small and can take a beating. My mini paraframe, pry'd open a car door, opened paint cans, slashed open dozens of bags of mortar, and etc, etc. For 12 bucks you really can't go wrong. Size doesnt have to be exact just looking for something small for EDC, so when I use it it wont scare the sheeple. Steel I am looking for stainless maybe cm154, s30v or maybe vg10. Just better stainless steel than the gerber paraframe. And price range I am looking in is 50-100.

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Check out the Cold Steel Mini Lawman, Mini Ak47 and Mini Recon etc. They're great knives for the kind of stuff you need. The AUS8, while a step up from the Para frames steel, isn't anything particularly special, but for opening bags of mortar you don't want something difficult to sharpen.

I don't think it matters what the steel is when you're using the knife to pry open car doors and open paint cans and bags of mortar. Just get another Paraframe, a more expensive knife would be a waste of money.

The paraframe is a great knife for the price. Its actually the frame that lends it self for opening paint cans I should have explained. The car door was out of necessity. I was locked of my wife's car. Used it to open it just enough to hit the unlock deal with a coat hanger. And mortar isn't an every day thing but as a DIY'er I have used my fair share and if it needs opening I want my knife thats on me to be able to do it. so whats tough and small for a edc knife? Any other than CS. I just cant get by cold steel marketing.

Ka-Bar Dozier series, Spyderco Delica, BM mini-Grip, Buck has a couple of smaller EDC type folders. My pick out of all those would be one of the Ka-Bars for the AUS8 steel.

If you really feel that you can't get a Cold Steel, Dale's recommendations are pretty good. The Delica and Mini Grip are forum favorites.
I'd recommend reconsidering your opinion on CS, though, because they do make some pretty good knives for the money. Along with the ones Chris mentioned, the Tuff Lite has a Wharncliffe blade shape that sounds like it would suit your needs well. (And there isn't any stupid video of that particular model, if it makes you feel any better :p)

I liked mine so much when I first got it, I bought a second in case of losing the first.
You can still find them cheap on Dweebay as NTSA airport confiscations.

I don't have a Mini-Paraframe to do a direct comparison, but here's a Buck Small Vantage Pro next to a Native. It looks pretty close in size to the Mini-Paraframe relative to the Native in the pic above.

I'm leaning towards the Buck vantage in S30v. 60 or so for s30v sounds like a good deal to me what do ya think?

If the mini-gerber worked for you, I think the Buck will be fine. S30V is more time consuming to sharpen, but it'll be a good learning experience.

Check out spydercos dragonfly2 or delica4 in zdp189 crazy edge retention. The vg-10 versions are also tried and true

Vantage Pro series has a lot of quality control issues all over the board. I own one that has lockup at 90% or so and the lockbar is extremely sticky and a pain in the neck to close. Nice stonewash on the blade and it's heat treated well, but man what a failure on the flipper and lock design.

I have that same problem with my vantage force pro lock almost touches the other liner and the flipper is super stiff takes alot of effort to flick it out. Ive tried loosening the blade and lubing it up but didnt change and if i loosen it even slightly the blade becomes horribly off center.
