I have quit a few Sebenza's but until yesterday I didn't own a small regular and now I think I'm in love with my small regular sebbie. It's got the perfect look and feel to it, why did CRK discontinue that model and are there any dealers that have them in stock? I like the 21 on the Large but in small, the regular all the way.

I couldn't agree more. I just got a small regular NIB with polished blade and serrations and love it. I have huge hands and the small 21 just doesn't fit my hand whereas the large 21 fits like a glove and the small regular is a close second. Having used the small regular the last few days, I have come to appreciate the serrations as well. They are great for cutting rough stuff like thick card board or zip-ties. I haven't found any dealers still stocking them.

Very few dealers have small regulars in stock, and those that do are decorated and not plain. I had a small regular plain, 2 of them actually. One even had double silver studs. Like an idiot, I traded it away for a different CRK. It would make you guys sick to see the CRK I sold or Traded.....lol, makes me sick thinking of the ones that are gone. But I am happy with what I have, though I am sure I will be thinning out the heard even more soon. Mine are normal CRK though and not fancy ivory and such. I would rather have 2-3 CRK than one mammoth I will never use. But dito, I love the small regular and will have one again eventually.

As for why they were discontinued.....??? Who knows. Chris is always changing. Someday the 21 will be different and people will be complaining its gone. Me personally, I like the large regular sebenza. I think I have six currently. Three are plain, two are uniques, one is engraved. For me, you just cant beat the large regular and with double studs......WOW.

i wish there was some kind of explanation for this as well.

The answer is almost certainly that you guys weren't buying enough of them. :( FWIW, my take is the other way around. I don't care much for the Regular's scales, but I really prefer the deeper belly on the Regular blade, but that only applies to the large, not the small. YMMV!

Ah, the small regular Sebenza.

It's parts are few,
Their sum is fine.
Perfection now discontinued.
Glad I've got mine (and perhaps a backup or two). :)

I actually just sold mine yesterday. It is a very nice knife but I ultimately prefer the large. I would love to get a Large Regular for the blade shape. That just looks nice.

I bought my first large regular in 2006, it's a Tanto limited 400 and didn't think much of it and through the years I acquired several more for the Damascus blades but the small regular, now that's special. Had I acquired the small regular first, my collection would be very different today. Now the search begins to find the small regular sebbie in damascus.

This is just what I have heard:
The regular was selling about the same as the Classic MM. I think they discontinued it since they added a couple other models of folders(limited manufacturing ability) . They probably figured the regular and the 21 sold to about the same market and they would not loose many sales if they just made one.
I also wish they still made the regular

I EDC a small regular. I have a large regular as well in BG 42 which I used to EDC a lot but since started working in a charity shop, the smaller sebbie is more NKP friendly and I found its all I need to cut up cardboard boxes and open bags. It also does duty in my workshop scraping glue and general cutting.

I'm still confused as to even why CRK came out with the regulars?? Was it an attempt to change the original? I guess one could compare it to when Coca Cola tried to change coke to a "new formula", and then everyone started screaming, and they went back to the original, and called it "classic":)

My first CRK was a Sm Regular and it's been my favourite knife(bar none) ever since. I've let go a number of them over the past few years, but have always regretted it. Even as I type this, I've been thinking of moving my blue double thumbstud, circa 2004. Thankfully, I read this and will put it away, knowing the same regret would follow if I sold it!

I have never held a Regular and I have passed on a few good deals on them. They just look less appealing to me and they look like they would be less comfortable too. Looks can be deceiving of course. I am sure that I will eventually try one.

New Coke was a well planned and executed plan by Coca Cola to change the original recipe. Coke used to be made with cane sugar. New Coke was made with high fructose corn syrup. Coca Cola delayed introducing Classic long enough in hopes that most consumers would not notice that it too was made with high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar. It is NOT the same. Coca Cola of course denies this while talking about the "secret" formula. Just before the New Coke abomination was introduced the economies of three Caribbean cane sugar producing countries imploded. I'm just saying ... It was all about economics. The US produced a surplus of corn and high fructose corn syrup was cheaper than cane sugar.

Purist know that kosher Coke is still made with cane sugar.

Perhaps the design changes at CRK were purely for manufacturing economy. I cannot say. Though I do know that artists and craftsmen can get bored faster than the average person and seek new ways to express themselves. Choices are good.

I am just thinking out loud here...but the economics I pointed to above might not make sense...:D...since CRK continues to use the Regular as the platform for the Annuals... :)

My understanding is that maintaining two regular production lines was cost prohibitive at competitive price levels. That doesn't preclude having limited run annuals at a higher price point. CR opted to continue with the model one that was closest to his original design.

FWIW, if I could have an Seb with a 21 body and Regular blade (from the factory  ), I'd in EDC heaven. The H's and P's looked like that.

I would definitely get one of those. I like the blade shape on the Regular but the handle on 21is pretty hard to beat.

I am not sure how they do the annual body(modify an old body or make a complete new one), but the blades were all premade(they made extras before discontinueing the model), from my understanding. although there are economics involved in my theory-by haveing 2 Sebenza models one eats into the market of the other. I think it has to do with the introduction of the other folding knives. They can make only so many knives without expansion and possible quality loss. Since makeing a regular and a classic is repetive in a number of areas they combined the 2 alowing for the manufacture of the other models. These are just my guesses though-no CRK inside knowledge
