I purchased a Fiskars Sharpener the other day and it arrived yesterday.

Here it is:

I went outside and used my 14 inch axe for about 10 whacks then ran it through the sharpener 15 times. I then used it for 10 more whacks. Definite difference and worth the price I paid.

I think this sharpener will NOT replace other sharpening methods, which I am learning now, but will be what I use while "on the job" and need to quickly refresh the edge to continue. So I'll take it with me when I anticipate some chopping.

Nice writeup, note that such devices have a strong aligning effect on the edge, this means they will sharpen fast but leave a lot of weakened metal on the edge. This gives really poor edge retention. If you cut into the rods directly first, very lightly, just 1-2 passes and then sharpen the edge retention will be much higher, as in 5x or more.

By the way, that sharpener works in a non-common way. There are ceramic cone wheels inside, rolling over the edge in diagonal direction. So it seems not to be so bad, as the other ones with same look. But it works well only when the edge angle is correct for it.
