this one is a bit rough, but turned out better than I thought it would. It's Hitachi White San Mai taken to 0.003" before sharpening. Black g-10 guard and dyed elk.

My first attempt to try the light box. Not very good. I'll take an afternoon and experiment a bit to learn better lighting and camera settings.

Nice knife and sheath, the elk antler has real nice color to it.

You might think it's rough.....but from my view point that's one heck of a knife

Thanks. The core wasn't quite centeted, and the plunges are off just a bit. There are some scratches in the handle too, but I do think the overall package came out nice, even with the problems.

Thanks. It's Fieblings light brown leather dye. Once the dye dries, I use cactus juice to stabilize the elk. It really helps with the pith, and prevents bleeding of the dye, but doesn't do much to the solid parts of the antler. This one showed a lit of dynamic colour tones, much more so than most.

the core isn't perfectly centered but it certainly isn't that bad either.
forging laminated steel and centering the core takes practice like any other aspect of knife-making.

It's the twists and blade straightness that's a constant challenge and part of the territory.

I'm guessing this is mild steel cladding?

This was bought from dictum. It's similar to wrought iron with a fine grain pattern.

It's not bad, but I've been a bit of a perfectionist with plunges lately. It was forged to shape, not just stock removal. It's a fine knife, but it wouldn't pass JS testing.

the handle does look fossilized /old, cool ! i like the black guard too.

When the elk is polished to 2000g, after stabilization, it does have an ivory like look. The moose I did recently is even better. This elk came out much more dynamic than usual.
